MINUTES GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, November 25, 2014

The Board of the Georgetown COA met on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, noon at the First Congregational Church.  The Board was called to order at 12:15 p.m. by Vice Chair Claire Maimone.

Present were: Jean Perley, Esther Palardy, Sue Gardiner, Carol Sheehan, Corona Magner, Nancy Thompson, Diane Prescott, Claire Maimone and COA Director Colleen Ranshaw-Fiorello.

The Secretary’s Report for October 28, 2014 was read and approved.  Board member Corona Magner’s move to accept the report was seconded by board member Esther Palardy.

Correspondence: There was no correspondence to review.

Old Business:  
  • There was no old business to discuss.
New Business:
  • The annual Holiday Party will be held Monday Dec. 8 at Trestle Way.  Board members and the Friends of the COA will assist with set-up and serving.  The COA Friends will fund the cost of the food.  Music will be provided by Chandler Noyes’, funded by The Georgetown Cultural Council.  The Georgetown Country Gardeners will create and donate centerpieces for the tables.
  • Colleen will submit the FY16 budget to Town Administrator Michael Farrell by Dec. 22.  The budget will be presented to the Finance Committee on Sat. March 9 a.m., 9 a.m.
  • Colleen and Town Administrator Michael Farrell met with Superintendent Carol Jacobs, School Business Manager Joan Liporto and School Committee member/Capital Improvement Committee member Michael Hinchliffe on November 19 at the Perley School.  Along with a tour of the school including the space that will become available as the Kindergarten and First Grade Classes move to the new Penn Brook School, the group discussed the need to establish a potential Senior Center facility in the Perley School’s First Grade wing.  Colleen will present a proposal to the School Committee on Thursday Dec. 18.
The Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s report explaining the spending in the COA Expense Line and Formula Grant for October and to-date in November. Colleen reported that Town has not received the state Formula Grant yet. The reports were approved with a motion by board member Esther Palardy and seconded by Nancy Thompson.
The Director’s Report:

  • Colleen presented the Director’s Report noting October statistics which included General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Screening, Health Education and Classes. The report was accepted with a motion by Sue Gardiner, seconded by Carol Sheehan.

  • Valentine Luncheon with Whittier Reg. Voc. Tech. High School students, Wed. Feb. 11, 11:30 a.m.

Adjourn: The COA adjourned at 1:10 p.m. with a motion by Esther Palardy, seconded by  Diane Prescott.
