MINUTES GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, September 23, 2014

The Board of the Georgetown COA met on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, noon at First Congregational Church.  The Board was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by Chair Jeannine DesJardins.

Present were: Claire Maimone, Jean Perley, Esther Palardy, Sue Gardiner, Jeannine DesJardins, Carol Sheehan, Corona Magner, Nancy Thompson, Ann Stewart and COA Director Colleen Ranshaw-Fiorello.

The Secretary’s Report for August 24, 2014 was read and approved.  Board member Corona Magner’s move to accept the report was seconded by board member Ann Stewart.

Correspondence: There was no correspondence to review.

Old Business:  
  • The annual MCOA Conference is scheduled Oct. 8-10 in Falmouth.  Colleen and Merrimac COA Director Laura Dillingham-Mailman will present a workshop on building relationships within the community to support COA programs and services, using examples of how collaboration between local boards, other town boards and community resources can be beneficial to the Town and local elders.
  • The First Congregational Church will be closed to all COA activities the week of October 20 due to church fair preparations.
New Business:
  • The COA will meet Tuesday October 28, noon at Town Hall.  There will no meals served at the COA Meal and Activity Site that day.
  • The Annual Flu Clinic will be held Wednesday Nov. 5, 9:30 -11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church.  There will be no Blood Pressure Clinic on that day.
  • Colleen has submitted a $450 grant application to the Georgetown Cultural Council for a series of musical programs in 2015.
  • Delvena Theater will also submit a grant application to the Georgetown Cultural Council for a production of the “Roosevelt Ladies” at Trestle Way in 2015.  Colleen has written a letter of support for the proposal.
The Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s report explaining the spending in the COA Expense Line and Formula Grant for August and to-date in September. Colleen explained that the state Formula Grant has not been received yet. The reports were approved with a motion by board member Esther Palardy and seconded by Nancy Thompson.
The Director’s Report:

  • Colleen presented the Director’s Report noting August statistics which included General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Screening, Health Education and Classes. Colleen reported that there has been an increase in participation in the blood pressure clinics as the Elder Brown Bag Program. The new elder law program with Attorney Elaine Dalton has seen good participation.  CORI checks will be required for participants in the indoor walking program at the Penn Brook School.  Colleen will be able to administer the CORI checks and share the information with the School Department.  Walkers will also be asked to sign in and out of the school and to wear a Visitor’s Badge while they are in the school.  The Mater of Balance eight-week workshop is ongoing with good participation.    The report was accepted with a motion by Esther Palardy, seconded by Ann Stewart.
