MINUTES GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, March 25, 2014

The Board of the Georgetown COA met on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, noon at First Congregational Church.  The Board was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by Chair Claire Maimone.

Present were: Claire Maimone, Corona Magner, Jean Perley, Carol Sheehan, Esther Palardy, Sue Gardiner, Jeannine DesJardins, Diane Prescott, Chandler Noyes and COA Director Colleen Ranshaw-Fiorello.

The Secretary’s Report for February 25, 2014 was approved after a minor correction.  Board member Chandler Noyes move to accept the report was seconded by board member Diane Prescott.

Correspondence: There was no correspondence to review.

Old Business:  
  • Following the presentation of the proposed FY15 budget of $95,280 to Town Administrator Michael Farrell and the Finance Committee on Saturday Feb. 8, there has been no further questions from the Finance Committee. As part of the level service budget, Colleen is seeking 3.5 additional hours for the Outreach Worker’s position as well as three additional hours for the Administrative Assistant’s position.  A “State of the Town” Meeting has not been planned this year.
New Business:
  • The First Congregational Church will be closed the week of April 14 in preparation for Easter, closing the Council on Aging Meal and Activity site for the week.  Meals on Wheels drivers will continue to meet in the church parking lot to transfer the Meals on Wheels food.  Activities and programs scheduled at the COA Office and Trestle Way will also continue.
  • The Council on Aging has received a $450 grant from the Georgetown Cultural Council to provide musical programs in 2014.  The musical series will kick-off with the Music Masters concert on May 19.
  • The Delvena Theater group has also received a grant from the Cultural Council to present the play “Louisa’s Girls” based on the life of Louisa May Alcott at Trestle Way next fall.  An interactive tea is planned for the event.
The Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s report explaining the spending in the COA Expense Line and Formula Grant for February and to-date in March. The reports were approved with a motion by board member Esther Palardy and seconded by Jeannine DesJardins.
The Director’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Director’s Report noting February statistics which included General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Screening, Health Education and Classes. Colleen noted that the COA office received more telephone calls for information in February than it had received in January.  The report was accepted with a motion by Chandler Noyes, seconded by Jeannine DesJardins.

  • Income Tax preparation, Feb. 6 - April 10, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with two preparers (80 slots)
  • March birthday party, Wed. March 26, 11:30 a.m.

Adjourn: The COA adjourned at 12:40 p.m. with a motion by Esther Palardy, seconded by Sue Gardiner.
