MINUTES GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, September 24, 2013

The Board of the Georgetown COA met on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, noon at First Congregational Church.  The Board was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by Chair Claire Maimone.

Present were: Claire Maimone, Corona Magner, Diane Prescott, Jeannine DesJardins, Jean Perley, Esther Palardy, Carol Sheehan, Chandler Noyes, COA Director Colleen Ranshaw-Fiorello and guest Sue Gardiner, COA applicant.

The Secretary’s Report for August 27, 2013 was approved with typographical errors corrected. Board member Chandler Noyes’ move to accept the report was seconded by board member Diane Prescott. The report was unanimously accepted.

Correspondence: There was no correspondence to review.

Old Business:
  • The First Congregational Church will be closed to the COA for lunch and other activities the week of October 20 as the church prepares for the annual fair.  Exercise classes and events will be held as planned at Trestle Way and a SHINE presentation will be held at Town Hall.  The COA will meet Tuesday Oct. 22, noon at Town Hall.
Colleen will attend the annual MCOA Conference in Sturbridge from Oct. 2-4.
  • The resignation of member Cynthia Tardif from the COA was accepted with regret.  Vice- Chair Esther Palardy moved to accept Cynthia’s resignation.  The motion was seconded by Corona Magner.
  • The Selectmen appointed Carol Sheehan as an alternate member of the COA at their Sept. 23, 2013 meeting.  They also accepted Cynthia’s resignation and thanked her for her services.
New Business:
  • COA board members agreed to recommend to the Board of Selectmen that resident and COA Volunteer Sue Gardiner be appointed to fill a vacant position available on the board at this time.  Treasurer Chandler Noyes moved to recommend Sue’s appointment to the COA.  The motion was seconded by Jeannine DesJardins.  Sue’s application and board’s recommendation will be submitted to the Board of Selectmen for their consideration.
  • Board members discussed volunteer opportunities to serve at the Oct. 30 Halloween/birthday party, the Nov. 6 Flu Clinic and the Holiday Party on Dec. 9.
  • The December COA Board meeting will be held on Tuesday Dec. 17, noon at the First Congregational Church rather than Tuesday Dec. 24.
The Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s report explaining the spending in the COA Expense Line and Formula Grant for August and to-date in September. The report also included payroll information and the amount received in donations for the Council on Aging Gift Account and from participants in the Strength Training and Yoga Classes as well as van participants. Board member Esther Palardy’s move to accept the report was seconded by board member Jeannine DesJardins.  The report was unanimously accepted.  
The Director’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Director’s Report noting August statistics which included General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Screening, Health Education and Classes.~Board member Esther Palardy’s move to accept the report was seconded by board member Diane Prescott.

Adjourn: The COA adjourned at 1 p.m.  Board member Esther Palardy’s move to adjourn was seconded by board member Jeannine DesJardins’ and the motion was unanimously approved.

Next meeting: Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, noon at Town Hall.
