MINUTES GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, March 26, 2013

The Board of the Georgetown COA met on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, noon at Town Hall.  The Board was called to order at noon by Chair Claire Maimone.

Present were: Claire Maimone, Esther Palardy, Cynthia Tardif, Chandler Noyes, Diane Prescott, Corona Magner, Jeannine DesJardins, Nancy Thompson, and COA Director Colleen Ranshaw-Fiorello.

The Secretary’s Report for February 26, 2013 was approved with the correction that Board Member Diane Prescott, and not Treasurer Chandler Noyes, had moved the acceptance of the February 26, 2013 Treasurer’s Report.  Treasurer Chandler Noyes’ move to accept the report was seconded by board member Esther Palardy. The report was unanimously accepted.

Correspondence: There was no correspondence to review.

COA Friends: The COA Friends will continue the raffle of a tea-related gift basket that will continue on April 30 at the special state primary and annual local election. Volunteers will take shifts selling raffle tickets and sharing COA Friends membership information as well as COA service information with the public. Board members Esther Palardy, Jeannine DesJardins and Nancy Thompson volunteered to share shifts on the April 30 Election Day.  

Old Business:
  • COA board members and staff have successfully passed the State Ethics Commission’s new conflict of interest on-line training program. Certificates and signature sheets have been turned into Town Clerk Jan McGrane.
  • Colleen presented the COA Budget to the Finance Committee on Saturday March 9, 9 a.m. at Town Hall.  Board member Cynthia Tardif attended the meeting with Colleen.  The meeting was very positive with good discussion and support from the board.
New Business:
  • The COA has been asked to participate in the Annual State of the Town meeting on Monday April 8, 6-8 p.m. at Town Hall.  Colleen will present power point slides highlighting the COA’s accomplishments and opportunities/challenges in FY13 and goals for FY14.  Board members reviewed the presentation with Colleen.

The Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s report explaining the spending in the COA Expense Line and Formula Grant for February and to-date in March. The report also included payroll information and the amount received in donations for the Council on Aging Gift Account and from participants in the Strength Training and Yoga Classes as well as van participants. Board member Corona Magner’s move to accept the report was seconded by board member Jeannine DesJardins.  The report was unanimously accepted.
The Director’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Director’s Report noting February statistics which included General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Screening, Health Education and Classes. Colleen noted that the Valentine’s luncheon provided by Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School was well-attended and very successful.  Colleen also noted the success of the recent Alzheimer’s Association Caregivers three-part program.  The van has also seen increased use with new clients participating in group shopping trips.  The COA will honor Robert Jeans on his 100th birthday during the Music Masters concert planned for May 20, 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church.

Adjourn: The COA adjourned at 12:45 p.m.  Treasurer Chandler Noyes’ move to adjourn was seconded by Board member Corona Magner and the motion was unanimously approved.
