MINUTES GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, February 26, 2013

The Board of the Georgetown COA met on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, noon at the First Congregational Church.  The Board was called to order at 12:15 p.m. by Chair Claire Maimone.

Present were: Claire Maimone, Esther Palardy, Cynthia Tardif, Chandler Noyes, Diane Prescott, Corona Magner, Jeannine DesJardins, Jean Perley, and COA Director Colleen Ranshaw-Fiorello.

The Secretary’s Report for January 22 2012 was approved as presented.  Treasurer Chandler Noyes’ move to accept the report was seconded by board member Diane Prescott. The report was unanimously accepted.

Correspondence: An email message was received from Selectmen Chairman David Surface congratulating the Georgetown COA for the achievements noted in the recent state-wide Senior Center Participation Survey and noting the need for additional space and the creation of a Senior Center as the new Penn Brook School building project begins.

COA Friends: Colleen joined the Friends of the Council on Aging during a recent business night sponsored by the Alliance for Georgetown, held at Nunan’s Greenhouse on Friday Feb. 22.  The event was well-attended and the COA Friends shared membership information as well as COA service information with the public.  The COA Friends also sponsored the raffle of a tea-related gift basket that will continue on April 30 at the special state primary and annual local election.

Old Business:
  • Along with other town employees and board members, COA board members are required to complete the State Ethics Commission’s new conflict of interest on-line training program by April.  COA board members have successfully passed the test in small groups at the COA office. Board members Corona Magner and Claire Maimone are scheduled to take the test on Monday March 4, 11 a.m. at the COA office.
  • Colleen will present the COA Budget to the Finance Committee on Saturday March 9, 9 a.m. at Town Hall.  Board member Cynthia Tardif will attend the meeting with Colleen.
New Business:
  • The COA has received a $400 grant from the Georgetown Cultural Council to fund several upcoming cultural events.
  • The First Congregational Church will be closed the week of March 24 for Easter Preparations.  The Council on Aging meal site and activities scheduled for the church will be cancelled but program at the COA Office and Trestle Way will be held.  The COA will meet Tuesday March 26, noon at Town Hall rather than at First Congregational Church.
  • The annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast will be held Tuesday April 23, 9:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church.

The Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s report explaining the spending in the COA Expense Line and Formula Grant for January and to-date in February. The report also included payroll information and the amount received in donations for the Council on Aging Gift Account and from participants in the Strength Training and Yoga Classes as well as van participants. Board member Diane Prescott’s move to accept the report was seconded by Vice Chair Esther Palardy.  The report was unanimously accepted.
The Director’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Director’s Report noting January statistics which included General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Screening, Health Education and Classes.

Adjourn: The COA adjourned at 1 p.m.  Treasurer Chandler Noyes’ move to adjourn was seconded by Board member Diane Prescott and the motion was unanimously approved.
