MINUTES GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, September 25, 2012

The Board of the Georgetown COA met on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, noon at the First Congregational Church.  The Board was called to order at 12:03 p.m. by Vice Chair Esther Palardy.

Present were: Corona Magner, Cynthia Tardif, Chandler Noyes, Jeannine DesJardins, Nancy Thompson, Esther Palardy, Jean Perley, and COA Director Colleen Ranshaw-Fiorello.

The Secretary’s Report for August 28, 2012 was approved as presented, following a correction to note that the meeting took place at the First Congregational Church rather than Town Hall.  Board member Chandler Noyes’ move to accept the report was seconded by board member Jeannine DesJardins. The report was unanimously accepted.

Correspondence: The Amesbury Council on Aging has extended an invitation to attend a COA Board training session on Thursday Oct. 25, 9 a.m. at their new Senior Center in Amesbury.

Old Business:
  • The Board of Selectmen approved the appointment of Nancy Thompson to fill the vacant position on the Council on Aging.  Nancy will be sworn in with the Town Clerk shortly.
  • Colleen plans to attend the Annual MCOA Conference scheduled for October 3-5, 2012.
  • The First Congregational Church will be closed to the COA for lunch and other activities the week of October 15 as the church prepares for the annual fair.  Exercise classes will continue during the week and a Canine Demonstration TRIAD event will be held Thurs. Oct. 18, 1 p.m. at Trestle Way. A SHINE presentation with Sue Cripps of ESMV will be held Wed. Oct. 17, 10 a.m. at Town Hall.
  • The Indoor Walking Program resumes Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Oct. 1 and 3, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Penn Brook School.  The Perley Pals Reading Program also resumes in October.
  • Colleen joined the Friends of the Council on Aging in hosting an information table at Georgetown Days on Saturday Sept. 22.  The Friends have a raffle underway featuring a gift basket with a Keurig coffee maker donated by Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley.
  • Colleen and Cathy Fairchild of NEET taped a cable TV interview with Beverly Enos on Sept. 19 featuring the NEET program and the need for additional volunteer drivers.

New Business:
  • The Halloween/Harvest Birthday will be held Wed. Oct. 31, 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church.
  • Colleen has filed a $450 application with the Georgetown Cultural Council for a series of five musical programs in 2013.
  • The COA will hold the annual Holiday Party Monday Dec. 10, 1 p.m. at Trestle way.  Chandler Noyes will provide musical entertainment.
The Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s report explaining the spending in the COA Expense Line and Formula Grant for August and to-date in September.  The report also included payroll information and the amount received in donations for the Council on Aging Gift Account and from participants in the Strength Training and Yoga Classes as well as van participants. Board member Jeannine Desjardins’ move to accept the report was seconded by Board Member Corona Magner.  The report was unanimously accepted.
The Director’s Report: Colleen presented the Director’s Report noting August statistics which included General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Screening, Health Education and Classes. Treasurer Chandler Noyes move to accept the report was seconded by Board Member Jeannine DesJardins and the report was unanimously accepted.

Adjourn: The COA adjourned at 12:58 p.m.  Treasurer Chandler Noyes’ move to adjourn was seconded by Board member Jeannnine Desjardins and the motion was unanimously approved.
