MINUTES GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, May 22, 2012

The Board of the Georgetown COA met on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, noon at the First Congregational Church.  The Board was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by Chair Claire Maimone.

Present were: Corona Magner, Cynthia Tardif, Diane Prescott, Jeannine Desjardins, Claire Maimone, Esther Palardy, Chandler Noyes, Jean Perley, and COA Director Colleen Ranshaw-Fiorello.

The Secretary’s Report for April 24, 2012 was approved as presented.  Treasurer Chandler Noyes’ move to accept the report was seconded by board member Jeannine Desjardins. The report was unanimously accepted.

Correspondence:  The Council on Aging received email from the Board of Selectmen’s Administrative Assistant Janet Pantano regarding the reappointment of board members.  Vice Chair Esther Palardy’s three-year term concludes June 30, 2012.  With Esther’s agreement to serve another three-year term and Colleen reported the COA’s recommendation regarding Esther’s reappointment to the Board of Selectmen.

Old Business:

  • The Council on Aging’s annual budget of $87,295 ($61,803 wages; $25,492 level-service expense) was approved at the annual May 7 Town Meeting.
  • Colleen reported that the town has not yet received the $3,295 EOEA Service Incentive Grant money previously approved by EOEA for the Mental and Cognitive Health project. Led by Edna Lezotte, D. Min. LISCW, the project is underway with additional support groups and professional development trainings to be held in Merrimac, Georgetown and West Newbury in June.  
New Business:
  • Resident Janice DeSisto said that she is not able to fill either the vacant or one of the two alternate positions available on the board at this time.  COA Board members said they will continue to talk with others in the community regarding potential candidates to fill the unexpired full-time board position or to fill an alternate position.
  • Nominating Committee members Dianne Prescott and Cynthia Tardif presented the following slate of officers:
  • Chair – Claire Maimone
  • Vice-Chair – Esther Palardy
  • Treasurer – Chandler Noyes
  • Secretary – Jean Perley
  • A motion to accept the nominating committee’s report was made by Chandler   Noyes and seconded by Corona Magner.  
  • The new slate of officers will be elected at the June 19, 2012 meeting with the new officers scheduled to fill their roles in July.  
The Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s report explaining the spending in the COA Expense Line and Formula Grant for April and to-date in May.  The report also included payroll information and the amount received in donations for the Council on Aging Gift Account and from participants in the Strength Training and Yoga Classes as well as van participants. Vice Chair Esther Palardy’s move to accept the report was seconded by Board Member Diane Prescott.  The report was unanimously accepted.
The Director’s Report: Colleen presented the Director’s Report for April noting statistics that included General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Screening, Health Education and Classes. Vice Chair Esther Palardy’s move to accept the report was seconded by Board Member Diane Prescott and the report was unanimously accepted.

Adjourn: The COA adjourned at 12:45 p.m.  Vice Chair Esther Palardy’s move to adjourn was seconded by COA Board Member Dianne Prescott and the motion was unanimously approved.
