MINUTES OF GEORGETOWN COA
Tuesday, November 22, 2011

The Board of the Georgetown COA met Tuesday, November 22, 2011. The Board was called to order at 12:08 p.m. by Chairwoman Claire Maimone.
Present were: Claire Maimone, Jeannine DesJardins, Corona Magner, Diane Prescott, Barbara Miller, Jean Perley, Esther Palardy, Cynthia Tardif and Director Colleen Ranshaw Fiorello.
Secretary’s Reports for September 27, 2011 and October 25, 2011 were read and accepted as read.
Old Business:
  • Newbury COA has decided not to move forward as a partner in the DOT Regional Mobility Assistance Van Grant project. They hope to receive a used van from the Rowley COA. Merrimac and Georgetown will now share the Grant. The final version of the lease with the Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority will be available within the next two weeks. The van is new and both towns will share expenses and pay for their own gas as needed.
  • Plans for the Holiday Party were finalized. The Friends of the Council on Aging will donate a $500 gift card for the COA to purchase food for the party and throughout the year. The Holiday Party will be held Monday Dec. 12, 1 p.m. at Trestle Way and the menu will include a light meal featuring deli platters with cookies provided by the Friends of the Council on Aging.  The Country Gardeners will provide centerpieces and organist Chandler Noyes will provide music.
New Business:
  • The first half of this year’s state Formula Grant was received by the town ($4,462). The second half of the grant is expected in the new year.  The Town of Georgetown received an increase in the Grant due to the increase in the senior population. The FY13 Budget is due Dec. 8, 2011. Town departments have been asked to provide a Level Service Budget and a Level Funded budget. At the November 14, 2011 special town meeting, a 2% salary increase for non-union employees was approved, adding $1,182 to the COA Budget.  Colleen will present the FY 13 budget to the Finance Committee Wednesday February 15, 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
Treasurer’s Report:
  • Colleen presented the Treasurer’s Report explaining the spending in October and November.  The report was accepted as read.
Director’s Report was read and discussed:
  • Statistics for September 2011 and October 2011 were presented:  General Information Services, Case Management, Home Visits, Reassurance Calls, Medical Equipment, Newsletters Mailed, NEET, Congregate Meals, Elder Brown Bag, Van Service, Social Events, Cultural Events, Health Education, and Exercise Classes.

  • A grant with the Georgetown Cultural Council has been filed to provide entertainment throughout the new year.
  • There was a Special Town Meeting attended by Colleen on Nov. 14/11.
