Activities
Alcohol Awareness Month:
Payroll Inserts: In partnership with GRIP the Task Force produced payroll inserts for Bozeman Schools; Gallatin County; and the City of Bozeman. May also be contributing to the printing of some to be distributed at MSU.
Proclamation: There will be a proclamation presented to the Bozeman City Commission this coming Monday at 7 PM, to the Gallatin County Commissioners, Tuesday at 9 AM.
MADD Assembly: To be held on April 27th at 9 AM for all Bozeman Senior High Students. The event will be sponsored by Dick Walter and anyone is welcome.
Other:
TEAM Gallatin: The substance abuse prevention action team has done good networking for Awareness Month.
Legislative Session: Pending discussion with MADD – Bill Muhs is beginning that conversation.
Web page: The work is pretty current. Working on adding current DUI law.
Crime Victim’s Rights Amendment: Jenifer Williamson and Susan Wordal presented what they know about this. Jenifer offered to send the original email to any Task Force members and said members could email Baucus, Burns or Rehberg to support the bill.
Susan said victims being present in court is problematic. There needs to be some kind of balance struck between current and proposed practice and this legislation doesn’t fufill that need. Victims definitely need rights, they both need to be informed and heard.
Tracking refusal rates: No progress on setting up a system to get these numbers yet.
DUI Recognition Award:
There is some precedent for these with other DUI Task Forces in the state.
There is a concern with Task Force members that if an officer receives that recognition, they may be targeted by the defense as chronically DUI-oriented, looking to max their arrest numbers, and therefore lose credibility.
Sherrie Murphy would look like to see that recognition given.
It’s might be possible to take the focus off arrest numbers and focus on
education to avoid this problem.
It’s important to avoid the perception that officers are recognized compensated for work they should already be doing.
Maybe letters for personnel files instead of an award.
Finances
Misc: Time to renew the lease. The Task Force agreed there was no reason to want to move.
The Task Force approved a new phone book listing in the white pages, DUI Task Force at $2 a month. The current listing is under “US Bank” and Jenna expressed concern that anyone who really wanted to call would not be able to find the listing.
Impaired Driving Newsletter: A subscription was approved. Jenna will work on a way to disseminate the information to members.
Bozeman Senior Sober: Approved donation of
Replace Bronco: No current good candidates for that replacement.
Budget – approved as presented by Mark.
