New Business
Discuss Streamline Guest Editorial (DUI Guest Column in Bozeman Chronicle written by Jenna will focus specifically on the impact that Streamline has had on DUIs and public safety this year so far). What one ride for a Streamline rider achieves: Approximately 4-5 hours is saved per DUI in police man hours completing DUI processing, roughly $800-$1,000 saved for the individual who would be paying DUI fines. Contact Kezia or Gabe with ASMSU Community Outreach for statistics on ridership at asmsuco@montana.edu or 994-5800.
Need a new secretary for meeting note taking; treasurer. Kezia will take notes when she attends meetings, regularly.
Finances
DUI Task Force surprise funds conversation. Approximately $8,000 in funds that were in limbo for 8 years that is know being delivered. Suggestions are: courtroom grants for tech equipment, etc. Ideally this would be a one-time special contribution for a cause that does not receive regular attention from the Task Force. Suggestions are wanted, contact Stephen or Jenna with those ideas. The next meeting will be focused on budget issues so suggestions should be forwarded by that time.
Monthly update on budget and mini-grant funds. Report on Feedback for WizMark Report on Task force marketing projects; postcards, Bozone calendar placement, etc. Susan motion $200 budget increase for February marketing, seconded.
Considered donation of trailer to the Road Dept. due to lack of use. A damaged vehicle is difficult to match with the trailer as legalities and permission must be granted for use. A potential vehicle (Cheri investigating) might be available for permanent use, then trailer would remain in the Task Force’s possession. Further discussion will commence re: this issue at the next meeting.
Discussion of Super bowl promotional items: Pizza box cover toppers. Motion to approve funding (Susan) and seconded Alex Fuller.
Report from Chief Gordon Berger re: action in West Yellowstone Middle School awareness.
Round table
Introductions and individual reflection
Discuss legislative focuses for next session. Note: there will be a later round table session with legislators in attendance.
Legislative sponsors are being sought and matched for legislative causes (bills, etc).
Report on those issues distributed, i.e. primary seatbelt.
Report on bills advocated for in 2007, no successes.
Brainstorm issues important to both groups: refusal, interlocks, primary seat belt, zebra tag license plates, etc.
Susan had several suggestions with Drivers License provisions, Curriculum change for ACT/MIP classes that should graduate/change from 1st to 2nd offense. etc. Suggestions noted by Jenny Haubenreiser (MADD Policy Coordinator).
Jenna is investigating directly with Representative Sue Dickenson (also Great Falls task force member) re: specifically why her refusal bill was tabled.
Jeff discussed the proposition of mandatory alcohol servers’ licensing.
Judge suggested that perhaps insurance companies should be contacted re: discount to businesses who license their employees/bartenders.
Announcement re: 4th annual Swimming Upstream Awards (April 10th) Contact Jenna re: potential nominees. Judge Salvagni will MC the event, food will be served, at the courthouse
.
Next Joint Meeting: April 16, 2008.
