New Business
- Susan moved to send a letter to the Department of Revenue regarding changes in policy/penalties for sale of alcohol to underage patrons. Stephen seconded. Motion passed. Jason will draft a letter and send it out for approval to all members. Letters must be submitted to DOR by June 28th.
- Current board officers will be retained for the next quarter, allowing job descriptions for board officers to be clarified before selecting new officers. Gordon motioned to approve retaining Cherie as Chair and KC as Secretary. Susan seconded. Motion passed.
- Jenna presented three changes to the Interim Plan and budget made in response to suggestions by Lorelle at Highway Traffic Safety: the addition of the fact that Jason, a Task Force member, teaches Responsible Alcohol Sales and Service classes monthly; deleting the detail about funding some workbooks for the new PRIME for Life curriculum; and a note on the budget page about the pending grant with MDOT. Dennis made a motion to approve both the plan and budget as proposed in May with the listed amendments; Susan seconded. Approved.
- The November 2009 minutes are missing the detail on the vote to fund $3000 for DUI overtime patrols for MHP in this fiscal year. Though members present at that meeting remember the vote, they don’t remember who made the motion to approve so that detail cannot be added. Susan made a motion to amend the November details to reflect the approval of that mini-grant without vote detail and Gordon seconded. Motion passed.
- Jenna’s job evaluation is due. Susan, Cherie and Stephen have agreed to participate in the evaluation.
- The next Interim Legislative meeting is July 29 & 30th. The agenda is not currently posted. Jenna plans to attend.
- The board consensus was to not meet in August.
- NPS Safety checks did take place over Memorial Day weekend and on June 12th. Stacy from Safe Kids, Safe Communities handed out flyers on seat belt usage. Though there were no DUIs given, there were open container violations; seat belt and speeding violations; and a drug arrest. Tom mentioned that stretching the funding given over three checks concerns him because of the amount of overtime they are paying. Jenna suggested he ask for an additional amount to cover that potential overage. No action taken. Jenna also connected MADD with Tom to supply treats for the safety checks.
- Update on work with facilitator:
- The next Task Force meeting, July 21st, will include an hour of board training. Both that meeting and the one on September 15th will be long meetings, running until 7:30 or 8 PM. A light meal will be served.
- The training will be taped for members who cannot be present. Susan suggested also filming the presentation. Jenna will work on finding a way to get that done.
- The strategic planning committee (Susan, Terry D, Stephen & Cherie) will meet with Terry P. and Jenna in July. Though the proposed date was July 15th at noon, two of the committee members may not be able to attend at that time. Jenna will get in touch with Terry and see what else might be organized.
- A survey will be designed and sent to Task Force members and other key community members, including legislators.
- Language/questions for those surveys are an upcoming priority as the surveys need to be sent in July.
- The PI&E Advisory Group had its first meeting. For Summer Fair Jenna will get more “DUI cost cards” along with new Designate Driver fliers for hand outs if Warren indicates interest in having those in the Sheriff’s Office booth.
- Jenna presented 2008 DUI stats charts to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. The County Attorney was not aware of how seldom BACs are included on tickets and will take action on changing that.
Finances
- There is $4500 remaining in the “other grants” category for fiscal 2010 and $1200 in contracted services.
- ADSGC withdrew its application for a mini-grant for workbooks for the new PRIME For Life curriculum. By MT administrative rules, the program must be self-supporting.
- Andrea Lower from Court Services presented a mini-grant for travel to a training for Pre-Trial officers. The cost is $1466 to send one person to the training in San Diego, CA in September. Pre-trial officers must update their certification every year by attending trainings. Jenna suggested that since about 40% of the Pre Trial Case load is DUI offenders, the Task Force could sponsor 40% of the cost of the training. The mini-grant will be voted on in July.
- There was a discussion of promotional ideas like posters for Catapolooza including using the Fatal Vision Goggles.
Stephen motioned to adjourn. Bob 2nd. Adjourned at 6:55 PM.
