Introductions
Public Comment: none
Motion to approve April minutes by Shanda, second by Mark. Approved.
New Business
- Jenna presented Hal with an appreciation plaque for his service with the Task Force. She also has plaques for Christina Crow and Jeff McRae and will get those to them. She presented the Task Force with logo buttons to wear when doing future DUI events.
- New members: Dennis Farnam is a new citizen volunteer. Brian Moen is the new Bozeman Police Department representative.
- Facilitators
- Jenna gave a brief overview of both candidates for strategic planning. The floor was open to comment. Susan was wondered what Beckiís fee was. It was determined her fee was $1400.00. The issue of the one- time fee for Beckiís services versus Terryís plan of a six month follow-up plan came into discussion. Terry has also done a lot of work with non-profits. Susan liked the fact that Terryís proposal included working the board as a whole plus the follow up. Jenna said there are funds in next yearís budget for the six month follow up with Terry.
- Susan made a motion to approve Terry to do our strategic planning, Mark seconded. Motion passed.
- Fiscal 2011 Budget and Plan
- Jenna distributed the proposed Interim Fiscal 2011 Annual Plan and Budget for discussion and initial approval. The floor was open for discussion. The state evaluation committee has already reviewed this plan/budget and has given Jenna some good feedback. Susan motioned to approve, adding that if there are suggested changes members should contact Jenna soon. Motion passed.
- Final approval of the plan will be voted on at the June 16th meeting. Itís on the Commission agenda for their approval June 22nd and needs to be submitted to the state by the 26th.
- Mini-grant to ADSGC for the visit from the South Dakota Recidivism group.
- Jenna attended the presentations to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and the Recidivism Committee itself and asked to hear their experience with effective interventions for DUI. One suggestion was to have victims of DUI ride along with officers.
- State Highway Traffic Safety meeting
- Jenna attended the impaired driving portion of the annual meeting to evaluate the effectiveness of Department of Transportation programs. She picked up the report that included projects that are or will be focus areas or projects for DUI reduction. They used a red light/green light evaluation system for the effectiveness of projects. Jenna thought that could be a simple system for evaluating our own projects.
- Public Information and Education
- Mark discussed his future ìmarketingî sub-committee. He said that we need to meet and get a game plan, and he would like to find some less-expensive/free ways to advertise. He would like to have a meeting. Jenna said it would be best for the sub-committeeís to meet/discuss outside of our monthly DUI meeting. Mark will contact members who indicated interest in being part of this group.
- Officer Schwartz reported that the Highway 191 Safety Checks in Yellowstone that the Task Force funded have been scheduled for May 30th, June 12th and June 24th.
Finances:
- 2011 Budget: Jenna distributed a suggested 2011 budget. Susan thought it a good idea that the task force maintain reserves, especially going in to the 2011 legislative session. Jenna suggested everyone start a list of projects we would like to see happen over the next year. Jason makes a motion to approve budget. Second by Terry. Approved.
- Discussion of handout items for GCSO summer fair booth.
- Perhaps have the designated driver brochure available.
- At the state DUI Task Force meeting, Terry was interested in an interactive system SUM-it-CUP and Intoxi-clock that educate around how many drinks are too much, products created by the same people who make Fatal Vision Goggles. The state also has a crashed car that will be on display at the fair.
- Jenna also thought the DUI cost cards would be good to distribute there as well. The Motor Vehicle Department just requested more of the cost cards to give new drivers. Susan thought it would be useful to create a large poster with the breakdown of the cost of a DUI.
- Jason suggested having a sub-committee for the fair and volunteered to be in charge of that.
- Bob made a motion to approve West Yellowstone’s mini-grant for PBT’s for $2270. Seconded by Shanda. Approved.
Bob motioned to adjourn meeting, second by Shanda.
