New Business
Membership drive
Jenna introduced visitors to the meeting who are considering membership. She would like to find a Task Force member from Big Sky. On the suggestion of one of the judges, she contacted Judge Brandeis for a possible Big Sky connection. She has also been in touch with two members of the insurance industry who have indicated interested. She is also looking for a media rep to serve on the Task Force and discussed the possibility with Glen Chamberlin from the BoZone who owns a tavern.
Marketing
- Jenna brought samples of ads that ran during the holiday season, and a guest column she wrote that ran in the Chronicle and the Belgrade News.
- The artwork for Super Bowl ad is finished. The printing budget for the year was $ 325. There’s currently $180 left in that budget. That should cover the cost of the Super Bowl “coupons.” May need to make adjustments to the budget in this category at the next meeting.
- Discussion concerning Jenna showing the group the estimates for ad costs she receives from ad reps before the Task Force commits to a certain advertising campaign. Jenna stated that where they are available, we get County advertising rates. If not, she asks for the non-profit price, generally a 10% discount, or if appropriate, makes a commitment to run enough ads to get a discount. Jenna shared a spreadsheet she had created to show the DUI myth campaign thus far. The spreadsheet included ad costs. If those costs change, she will notify the Task Force. Force thought it would work better for Jenna to bring a concrete proposal for marketing campaigns. Susan said in the past it has worked for the group to approve a budget and allow Jenna to work with that budget to design a campaign.
- Susan made a motion to run Super Bowl advertisements for 1 week / for $250. Scott second. Motion approved.
Other
- David from the Institute for Public Strategies was present to discuss a possible “round table” regarding the topics of social host or interlock systems. The Task force thought the issue of repeat offenders would be a topic the public would be interested in and motivated by. Jenna will invite Court Services to attend the March meeting to begin that discussion and to help design a larger forum.
- ASMSU representative Amanda was present as a substitute for Jaimie who will be attending Task Force meetings. She said that ASMSU is running a campaign for dorm students to try and increase ridership for Late Night Streamline and awareness of the service within this population. The will be having an open house at the dorms in the near future with to market to students. They have also teamed up MSU P.D. to help train bus attendants.
- Jeff and Jenna will collaborate on a letter to send to the Interim Legislative Committee addressing DUI related issues.
- MSU dispatch finished the 2007 & 2009 stats entry over the holiday season break.
- Motion by Susan to approve annual report (with amendments) second by Scott. Approved.
Financial
- Motion by Susan to approve Scott’s registration for the LifeSavers 2010 conference, second by K.C. Approved
- Motion by Cherie to approve Belgrade the remaining $500 for the Belgrade PD Mini-grant that was approved last fall. Approved.
