Farmington Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes
October 8, 2008

Members Present: Paula Proulx, Sylvia Arcouette, Sharla Rollins, Barry Elliott, and Cindy Snowdon

Also present: Downtown & Business Committee Chairman Joann Doke, Director of Planning and Community Development Dan Merhalski

Review of Minutes:
July 9, 2008: Approved as amended by a motion from Barry, seconded by Sylvia, all in favor.
September 10, 2008: approved as amended with a motion by Barry seconded by Sylvia, all in favor.

Financials:
Who is payroll-what is it for? Think EDC & Downtown Committee financial committee should be separated- need to set up suggestions for budget line for up coming year. Dan said group needs to decide as a whole what we anticipate doing and develop an action plan for possible projects.

Sharla was excused at 7:45

Survey
Approximately 57 current businesses operating. Joan Doke had concerns about just targeting downtown businesses. Mail letter today-10-08-08. Collect surveys-week of 20th-24th.
Dan will split up list of businesses & e-mail to us. Will have extra letters & surveys to take with us in case the business looses the original

Updates
  • Berry is setting granite bounds before frost. It has taken longer than originally thought. The plan needs to be Oked by Planning Board. Dan will ask Tony (TA) to put on the next BOS agenda to ask Planning Board for a lot line adjustment.
  • There is some interest in SGBP –one expansion and one purchase of lot.
  • The response to Hiram’s letter was passed out.
Ease of Establishing a Business
Discussions on Fundamentals of opening a business. Contract WEDCO & SEDCO, TD Banknorth & Holy Rosary and see if they can come in for next meeting to aid with tools/resources & establishing a business plan.

Agenda for next meeting:
Look at budget request for next year.
Review of survey info
Wedco, Sedco, Holy rosary, & TD Banknorth
