Meeting Minutes
Thursday – April 29, 2010
Members Present: Joanne Doke, Rich Stanley, Joan Kotsiroplos and Ann Titus.
Members Excused: Jeannette Colpitt, Keith Henderson, Debbie Scanlon, and Cindy Snowdon
Chairman Rich Stanley opened the meeting at 6:05pm.
1. Review of Minutes:
None to review
2. Ribbon Cuttings:
Joanne Doke stated she spoke with the owner of the new day care on Rte. 11, Hillside Enrichment and they would be happy to have a ribbon cutting. Joanne will schedule a date for May. She also went to the ribbon cutting at CHANCES Farmington Computers asked if they could have a ribbon cutting but she thought it might be a little strange to do this after being open for 11 years. Committee suggested highlighting them as a Business of the Month instead. It was discussed that the 485 Restaurant might want a ribbon cutting as well and Joanne noted that she heard they were having a big opening and was waiting for them to get organized.
3. Passbook Promo:
Rich said he stopped in to see Jeanette and no one turned any of the passbooks in so he is not sure what to do with the savings bond, the basket from Joan and the basket from TD Bank. The Committee decided that Rich should hold on to the baskets and then check with Holy Rosary Credit Union to see if they mind the committee holding on to savings bond for a future promotion.
4. Signage Update:
Rich explained that he drafted a sample sign for the committee’s approval and they agreed it looked good and he could move forward to get an estimate.
5. High School Downtown Art Project:
Rich reported that he did get a letter out to the Superintendant and School Board late last week but has not heard back yet.
6. Discussion of having meetings at local businesses:
Joan said that she does not think it is a good idea because the committee would only be promoting one business at a time and the businesses need to do something to help promote their businesses. Joan commented that the businesses did not do much to promote the passbook promo that was intended to help them promote their businesses.
7. Business of the Month:
Ann suggested contacting Cameron’s to see if they would like to be the May Business of the Month. Joan suggested contacting Deb Scanlon or Al the Barber because they showed interest.
8. Business Social:
Rich asked if the committee is interested in hosting another social like they did last year. The committee discussed that they did a lot of work last year on this and only one business owner showed up so they are not excited to do another one.
9. Downtown Parking:
Joan K. said she would like to see the committee work on the parking situation downtown because there is never parking downtown. She stated that the 2 hour limit needs to be enforced and there are people who are living over places like Jimmy’s that are parking on the street all day because the ban is lifted. Joan F. suggested having the PD come to a meeting to have this discussion. It was also discussed that maybe a letter should go to the rental property owners too. Rich will contact the PD to invite them to the next meeting.
Next meeting is May 27, 2010.
Joan Kotsiroplos motioned to adjourn, 2nd Ann Titus. Motion carried with all in favor.
Meeting adjourned at 7:02pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Brandy Sanger
Recording Secretary.
