~~~ Feb. 25 Minutes~~ Farmington Downtown & Business Committee

~~ The meeting was called to order by Chairman Rich Stanley at 6:05~ with the following in attendance:~ Rich Stanley, Ann Titus, Joan F., Joan K,Deb Scanlon, and JoAnn Doke.~ Keith Henderson was excused.
~
There were no minutes from the last meeting (Nov. 09) available

Reappointments:~ While Deb has tried to be reappointed, at this time she is regretfully tendering her resignation effective June 2010 citing full time job responsibilities.
~
Vice-chair:~ Rich wondered if we should appoint a vice-chair to run a meeting in his absence- Ann Titus volunteered and was unanimously approved to file that position.
~
Passport Program:~ Decided the promo should end on April 15.~ Joan Funk offered to ask the BOS if they would draw the winners live on Ch 26 at the following meeting of April 19.~ More PR is needed and prizes should be on display at Palmer Hardware.
~
Reimbursement:~ $50 received so far, Rich has sent a follow up letter w/ the balance noted.
~
Goals for 2010:~ More ribbon cuttings, JoAnn will check w/ Crowley's and also w/ Sonya Legere-Stiles re: the business renting the old Hunter's Tavern
~
It was mentioned that the BOS in speaking of the Economic Devel Survey, wondered if there should be a Farmington Business of the Year contest.~ Rich will check into criteria etc for the possibility of us sponsoring this maybe in conjunction w/ the other committee. Joan Funk will talk to the Town~Mgr to see if he has any ideas about how other towns recognize businesses.~ Ann mentioned that she thought a good idea was for some of the businesses to promote themselves more with signage that could be changed often such as : Come In and see what_________ is cooking today~ or ________is working today=stop in!~ As discussion went on along those lines, it was mentioned that perhaps displays could be painted in windows of vacant stores and occupied stores to enhance their look.~ Ann will talk to art teachers at the schools and see if they have any
thoughts on this.

Business of the Month:~ Starting in the spring, we would ask businesses to contact us about being featured either Ch 26 or the Puddledock Press.
~
Signage:~ Rich will notify Joel Moulton that our committee does not~ need to go thru the BOS first, we have already been approved.~ The group discussed the signs that Rochester currently has that say: Church, Hospital, etc.~ JoAnn will take a photo and bring to the next meeting.
~
Social:~ More discussion on hosting a special or asking a business to host it.~ We still have a budget although it was cut.~ (amount?---------)

Parking Concerns:~ Joan Funk mentioned that the BOS was approached re: handicap parking and that signs have been ordered. to be placed at the Laundromat and across the street near the old Chinese Restaurant.
