Downtown & Business Committee Meeting Minutes 9-24-09
Farmington Downtown & Business Committee
Sept. 24, 2009 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 6:10pm with the following in attendance: Jeanette Colpitt, Rich Stanley, JoAnn Doke, Joan Funk, John Fitch and Debbie Scanlon. Ann Titus was excused.
The July minutes were read & accepted.
A motion was made by Joan Funk to accept Rich Stanley as our new chairman. John Fitch seconds- motion carries by all.
Discussion on ribbon cuttings for new businesses. JoAnn will line up a date and time. John noted that we are doing ribbon cuttings for businesses that seem to be gone already and that maybe we should think of a way to recognize long-time businesses in town. Some examples were: Country Daisy, Barron Brothers, and Sandy's Coiffures.
Debbie volunteered to make up a business profile form to hand out and from that info gathered we could highlight some businesses. It was decided that she would email the form to JoAnn who will put it with a letter re: the passport promo and give each comm. member 4-5 businesses to visit. It was also suggested that we highlight a downtown business and a Rt 11 business each month at least in the Puddledock and try to have John Nolan do something in the Rochester Times.
Re: Decals- John will contact Cindy Snowdon about getting the rest of the decals due the committee or returning some of the money paid so we can have someone else do them- all total we have only 3 decals left. Also if Billy Snowdon declines to make the rest of the decals- have him sign off on the design so we can contract to have more done in the same design.
Passport promo: It was decided that Jeanette can make up the booklets and stickers for approx $100- Rich will ask the BOS for that amount at a BOS meeting. It was also decided that each person participating should have at least 75% of the businesses to put in for the drawing- 1 per family and 13 years of age and older. Start to publicize for Nov. 1 start date.
Christmas plans ie: scavenger and separate Xmas shopping nite- tabled for next month.
Signage: Joan spoke to Tony and he apologized for the delay and said he would put Rich on the agenda ASAP.
Joan reported on her efforts to help a local business man with his plans to locate into the industrial park- Joan noted that Debbie Christie at the library would help as well with grant writing if needed. The committee thanked Joan for her efforts and agreed with her that the work she has been doing as comm member and selectman should be done by the Economic Development Committee.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:10pm.
Respectfully submitted,
JoAnn Doke
