DOWNTOWN & BUSINESS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, March 26, 2009
356 Main Street, Farmington
Members Present: Joann Doke, Jeannette Colpitt, John Fitch, Ann Titus, Richard Stanley and Deb Scanlon.
Members Excused: Cindy Snowdon
Selectman's Rep: Joan Funk
Chairman JoAnn Doke meeting to order at 6:00pm.
1. Review of Minutes:
Ann Titus motioned to accept the 1-7-09 minutes as presented, 2nd JoAnn Doke. Motion carried.
2. Ribbon Cuttings:
A. JoAnn stated that the Pet Pantry ribbon cutting still needs to be re-photographed but she would like to wait until the snow is gone. JoAnn stated she scheduled a ribbon cutting for the RTE 153 Country Store for April 8, 2009 at 5:30pm. The ribbon cutting for Downtown Coffee is set for Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 12:15pm. The ribbon cutting for Mid Town Auto Repair is set for April 22, 2009 at 5pm.
3. Other:
A. The committee welcomed new member Richard Stanley.
B. JoAnn suggested the committee start planning another Business Social. It was decided to hold the social in the Selectmen’s Chambers in the Municipal Building so that it can be videotaped. Joan will check with Robert on the dos and don’ts of the television program. JoAnn will make a flyer and JoAnn and Jeanette will put together a door prize. The date will be sometime in May.
C. JoAnn asked if the members would be willing to change the regular meeting date to the last Thursday of the month starting in April. All members were in agreement this would be okay and will start April 30.
D. The committee held a discussion on how to promote downtown business. It was suggested that the committee look into getting highway signs for Rte. 11 stating there are restaurants and stores down Rte. 153. Also advertising on COAST bus was brought up and Joan stated she would look into this. It was also discussed to have a type of passport book where residents visit local merchants for stamps and then turn them in for prizes. Deb also suggested setting up a display in TD Banknorth. Deb will touch base with Nicole at the bank to get her opinion on this. It was also discussed that maybe a business of the month could be promoted on the fire station sign or on a bulletin board in the Municipal Building.
4. Old Business:
A. JoAnn stated that the committee has still not received about 60 decals that were paid for and that she is going to ask for them again from Cindy Snowdon.
B. Joan mentioned that the Gridiron Club used the business directory for a mailing and have been receiving some letters back. She will update the list as they come in.
C. JoAnn reminded Deb, Cindy and Jeannette need to reapply to the committee.
John Fitch motioned to adjourn at 7:03pm, 2nd Deb Scanlon. Motion carried with all in favor.
