Summary: |
The Land Management Team (LMT), currently consisting of the Open Space Ombudsman, Conservation Commission Chair, FTAC Chair, Falmouth Land Trust President, Falmouth Land Trust Executive Director, Conservation Corp representative, Town Manager, and Parks & Community Programs Director, was created in the Fall of 2009 to open the lines of communication with all entities with regard to Falmouth’s Parks and Public Spaces. In the past four years, the committee has worked diligently and cooperatively to create a Parks and Public Lands map and brochure; to develop management plans for open space and conservation properties, including forest management plans; and to overall coordinate the
efforts of land management within the Town of Falmouth.
It is the recommendation of the Land Management Team to elevate the committee to a formal, Town Council appointed committee, and in doing so consolidate the duties and powers of the Trails Advisory Committee and Open Space Implementation Sub-Committee to create the Land Management Committee (LMC).
As the open space program has moved into a management phase, the newly formulated LMC will have the resources to effectively manage Falmouth's open space going forward. The proposed LMC will have representatives from Falmouth Land Trust, Conservation Commission, Falmouth Conservation Corp, and the Ombudsman, and will keep those organizations and associated activities focused on the success of Falmouth's open space initiative. The committee will also include a real estate representative that will provide a perspective on emerging open space opportunities, and "a representative of an organized group with an interest in recreation use on town conservation lands" (i.e., trails).
