Subject:
Order to oppose any expansion of an existing or creation of a new public boat launch to accommodate larger boats, and to request the MDIFW continue its cold-water fish stocking program at Highland Lake.

ACTION: Council action is anticipated.
Summary:
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife wrote a letter to the Town on June 11, 2011. In this letter, they explain the Department's policy to require boating access equity if fish stocking and management is desired by the community.

The Town Manager facilitated two meetings with Highland Lake residents and interested stakeholders in August and November. Francis Brautigam, MDIFW Regional Fisheries Biologist, attended the November meeting. Copies of the meeting notes are attached.

A Public Hearing was held at the Council's meeting on February 13.  In general both the public and the Council were opposed to an expansion of the existing, or the creation of a new, public boat launch. An order is attached.
