Staff is asking the Town Council for guidance in the form of an order regarding the Rt 88 and Johnson Road sidewalk and crosswalk project final design. The Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) is involved with the design of this project and PACTS awarded money for this project in 2008. MDOT has been working with the owner of the Town Landing Market to establish the crosswalk location across Foreside Road. Due to the location of the Market's existing parking (within and outside the Right-of-way), the owner is opposed to losing 2 parking spaces at the corner of Foreside Road and Town Landing Road. The crosswalk cannot be installed without a safe, designated area for pedestrians to reach on
either side of the road. See attached sketch plan for site referencing. |
