Subject:
Public Hearing regarding an amendment to Chapter 6, Article 6, Section 6.68, Appendix B of the Falmouth Town Ordinance that will change maximum levels of income and expenses for General Assistance program.

ACTION: No Council action anticipated.
Summary:
General Assistance Maximums are outlined in Chapter 6, Article 6, Section 6.68, Appendices A-H of the Falmouth Town Ordinance.  Appendix B outlines the food maximums. These levels are established by the state based on certain federal values that are typically made effective on the first day of October each year, and are adopted annually by the Town Council.

As part of the newly adopted Stimulus bill, signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009, the USDA Thrifty Food Plan has increased.  The change is effective from April 1, 2009, to September 30, 2009, when the new Food Supplement allotments are usually developed.

A memo from the Department of Health and Human Services detailing the reason for the change, a chart showing the new maximums, and a letter of introduction from Councilor Armitage are attached.  This item was introduced at the March 23, 2009, Council Meeting.
