Roll Call Present and answering roll call: Sally Bitan, Kelly Fernald, Steve Hendry, Bill McMahon, Satoria Pelton
Item 1 Pre-Work for Mission Statement Discussion
To prepare for the development of a mission statement the committee had some discussions to help stimulate ideas.
A. List topics that the committee has been involved with in the past:
· pay per bag
· promote recycling and alternative method of household was disposal
· composting
· transfer station programs
· solid waste and recycling in general
· educational activities
· curbside recycling
· recycling at schools
B. List topics the committee would like to be more involved in:
· Recycling at schools
· Business recycling consolidation
C. List types of groups that could be served by the Recycling Committee:
· residential
· schools
· town offices
· commercial/business
· non-profit
Item 2 Develop a Recycling Committee mission statement
The mission statement was not finalized. Ideas were gathered for consideration. The theme Reduce/Reuse/Recycle was proposed.
· Reduce overall solid waste for the Town of Falmouth
· Promote Reuse or items that would otherwise end up in waste stream
· Bump up/increase percent of waste stream (Recycling) that is recycled
· This will be accomplished through programs, education
Item 3 Preliminary Ideas for the Recycling Committee work plan
Ideas for the work plan were collected as they come up:.
· Become a resource for commercial partners
· Support recycling in schools
· Get website ‘a crackin’
· Promotion of, education in, and information for reuse.
Item 5 Agenda for May Recycling Committee meeting
· The next Recycling Committee meeting will be Monday, May 12, 2008 at 5:00 PM at Falmouth Public Works.
· Complete mission statement (share ideas via e-mail prior to meeting)
· Finalize the work plan
· Review recycling rates
