Recycling Committee Minutes 082007
FALMOUTH RECYCLING COMMITTEE
Meeting Minutes

Date: Monday, August 20, 2007
Present: Kelly Fernald, Tony Hayes, John Henson, Bill McMahon, Satoria Pelton, Bonny Rodden, Faith Varney (resident), Skip Varney
Next Meeting: Monday, September 10, 2007 @ 5:00 PM, Falmouth Public Works

I.  Feedback on First Week of Curbside Recycling
Feedback overall has been very positive
Skip distributed some notes he put together from the first week
Numbers from the first week of curbside

Trash/Recycling:
Wednesday: 22.89 T 19.98 T
Friday: 25.47 T 15.56 T
Also for the week 28 T was collected from silver bullets
No major problems were reported. Some of the resident’s own bins were too heavy when full.
It is difficult to measure numbers in the first week due to several factors. Waiting until October 1 or so should give a good measure of the program.
The area around the silver bullets seems to be cleaner – mostly from an absence of cardboard boxes.

II.  Request from Pride Farm Rd.
Faith Varney attended the meeting to present a request that Pride Farm Rd be serviced for curbside recycling. There are 40 homes, 10 of which with year round residents.
Recycling could be brought out to the turn-around, possibly to a dumpster for recyclables.
Pride Farm will consider switching from a private contractor to haul solid waste to town service.
Faith will discuss the options with the board in early September.

III.  Other Items:
Hazardous Waste Collection for Falmouth, Cumberland and Falmouth will be held in Yarmouth on Saturday, September 8.
Signs will be posted around town and an announcement will appear in the Forecaster.
