Community Programs Advisory Committee Minutes 09/11/2007
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITES & PARKS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
                                                        September 11, 2007

Attendees:  Faith Varney, Jack Davis, Nancy Richards, Steve Tenney, Lucky D’Ascanio, Skip Varney, Karen Jones

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm and minutes from the August meeting were accepted.

Faith announced that Brenna Hensley, a placeCityFalmouth resident from addressStreetWoodville Rd, has been appointed to take over the position vacated by Carol Fredriksen.

We had a presentation from Falmouth Rotary (Dick March, David Jones, Betsy McFadden) regarding their proposal for a Senior Center/Community building that they would propose building at Village Park as a public-private venture similar to the Family Ice facility.  This is in a VERY preliminary stage and Rotary would like to have our support on the general concept.  This type of facility has been on the Town’s “wish list” for many years and while we did not vote, the general consensus by the committee was that we encouraged them to continue their exploration of this project.  They expect to make a presentation to the Council shortly.

The Artificial Field Project is on track and progressing.  Hopefully either spring ’08 or fall at the latest.  The building “window” is fairly limited as they are attempting to disrupt normal activities as little as possible.

Skip reported that the Region 1 Soccer tournament had very little impact on the fields due to a tremendous pre-plan on the town’s part and the perfect weather before and during the program.  There is a 2 year contract and we will see the group back again next year.

Skip also reported that the Route 1 “placeIslands” are a continual problem for maintenance and safety to the Town employees that must work on them.  There is a movement by local residents requesting additional islands to the area.  More as we know it.

There is a plan for a new maintenance building at Legion field but it has not made it to the top of the list of projects yet.

Lucky reported that there were 1034 enrollments for fall programs with approximately 28% of them being made on line.

The Town council is in the process of reviewing all town committees.  As a result, we could see our function changed at some point.

Our next meeting is scheduled for October 9th

The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 PM.
