SIGN VARIANCE COMMITTEE
MINUTES FOR THE
NOVEMBER 3, 2008 MEETING
The Sign Variance Committee meeting was called to order at 6:05 PM. The meeting was held in the Council Chambers of the Village of Evendale Municipal Building. Members present were Chairman Ted Mueller, Council Representative Stiney Vonderhaar, Fred Caston and Wayne Mosley. Bob Luther was absent.
The committee heard the following request:
Mr. Clean Performance Car Wash, 10199 Reading Road
Request for a variance from Section 1262.11 of the Village of Evendale Zoning Code requiring monuments signs to have a minimum setback of 20 feet from the right of way.
File #V-08-04
Mr. Clean Performance Car Wash appeared before the Sign Variance Committee on September 5, 2008 requesting a 14 foot variance from the required 20 foot setback. The request was tabled.
Joe Kruse, Marsh Inc., and Grady McCarthy, P & G Agile Pursuits, presented a revised site plan for the location of the new monument sign. The proposed sign would be located 17 feet from the right way and would be horizontal rather than vertical. This new request would require a three foot variance.
Mr. Kruse explained that they explored the option of modifying the curb area of the exit lane so that the sign could be placed 20 feet from the right of way. They felt that this option would change the traffic flow and may cause some safety issues. Mr. Vonderhaar asked if the sign could be moved closer to the exit lane curb. Concerns were raised by Mr. McCarthy of the vehicles ability to drive around the sign without knocking off their mirrors if the sign was placed directly next to the curb.
Mr. Vonderhaar made a motion, with a second from Mr. Mosley, to recommend to Council to approve the proposed monument sign with a maximum setback of one foot from the exit lane curb. This placement of the sign would have a 1 ½ foot encroachment into the right of way. The motion passed with a vote of 4 – yes, 0 – no.
Mr. Vonderhaar made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 5, 2008 meeting as read. Mr. Caston seconded the motion. The motion passed with a vote of 3 – yes, 0 – no.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 PM
