Evendale Recreation Commission
October 16, 2008
Called to order at 7:36am.
Roll Call: Stiney Vonderhaar, Michele Gottschlich, Wayne Mosley, Pam Meyers, Grace Ficke, Mary Lou Isaac, David Nichols, Gus Janszen.
Discussion of last month’s minutes: Ten teams have registered for the men’s competitive basketball league; while four teams registered for the recreational level. The season will be shorter, so Kristen may offer a 3v3 season afterwards. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Gus Janszen; seconded by Stiney Vonderhaar. Motion approved.

Old Business:
Tri-Health Report –
·       Fifteen classes offered this session, fourteen are ongoing.
·       The request to change the radio station has been reviewed; but at this time the station will remain the same (103.5 WGRR). Patrons may listen to a different radio station while working out as all cardio equipment has TV/FM audio connections. Patrons also listen to their IPods while working out.
Additional Tennis Court Sub-committee meeting overview -
·       The sub-committee developed six options for review.  The sub-committee and commission like option number one which would add half of a court to either side of courts 1 and 2, then reconfigure the nets and fences to create four courts.
·       Stiney will discuss this with the Village Engineer and report back to commission and council committee.
Director’s Report:
·       On the November ballot there is referendum for Clean Ohio. A flyer was passed around reviewing the issue.
·       Griffin Preserve Clean Up and Halloween Fest both take place this Saturday, November 18th.
·       The RFP for the pool was let yesterday.
·       The RFP for the fitness center will let later this month. The staffing schedule has been modified. The insurance company recommended additional signage and a waiver. The village solicitor is reviewing the waiver. An AED (automatic external defibrillator) and one additional security camera will be added. Our department staff will monitor the fitness center with walk-throughs
An additional building attendant will be brought in to assist during basketball season on Friday nights.
·       David has included a request for additional per hour cost in case we decide to extend the successful bidders hours in the fitness center.
·       Fitness center operation bid opening will take place Tuesday, November 25.

Phi Lambda Pi Report:
·       September brought the Third Annual Fresh Meat Competition. This year’s winners were Meghan Schababerle and Elyse Spraul, who each won a $100 Visa gift card from Phi.  The last Wednesday night in September, members listened to a brief financial seminar and then had a movie night.
·       Five members volunteered for the Mother Son Night of Fun event on September 19.
·       The Entertainment Book and Candle Sale continue now through mid December. The annual Election Day Bake Sale happens on Tuesday, November 4th; donations welcome, and everyone is invited to purchase.
·       Eighth grade class is large; but not as large as last year’s group.

Open Discussion:
·       Gus has mentioned that soccer field #3 needs to be extended. Stiney and Gus will meet after this meeting to discuss needs and options.
·       Soccer Fest for the U-6 takes place Sunday, October 19th. U-8 Soccer Fest happens Sunday, October 26th.
·       Our next meeting will be Thursday, November 20th at 7:30am.
