Phi Lambda Pi Report
· Holiday Party/Overnight was held December 12th. The governing committee decided to cater in dinner, and add one more activity for a total of three after dinner activities (Pump It Up, movies, bowling).
· Over 100 Entertainments books were sold. Candle sales have not been calculated, sales are still underway.
· Open houses on Wednesdays have included hockey, Catchphrase, Twister, and a holiday movie with snacks.
New Business
Quarterly Update from Tri-Heath Management
· 2007 Participation is up 15 people on average per day. Regular active members have increased by 30 people. The increase usage has not created any problems (i.e. people having to wait for machines, people leaving because the center was busy, etc.)
· Prevention through Wellness participation continues to grow.
· The “winter” fitness program session added a Saturday spinning class; Yoga for Tots class; Ballet for 3-5 year olds class; Yogalates class; and a Spinning/Pilates fusion class.
· Only one (Tuesday Muscle) class of the sixteen offered classes was cancelled; five others are full. It seems that the correct mix of consistent instructors, longer sessions, right times, and the right fees has been found.
· Upcoming incentive program: March Madness
· The 2007 Kids Fit Fest will probably be held in March.
Moeller LaCrosse Request for field usage and time
· Request was made from March through May, Monday through Friday, 3-5pm. for the Moeller Varsity LaCrosse Team (30 players, 2 coaches, 1 administrator).
· If raining or snowing, the team would use the activity center at school.
· Commission members are concerned about the wear and tear on our fields. Michele Gottschlich’s son played lacrosse and the players tore up the fields.
· Commission will notify Mike or Kim later today of their decision.
Wayne Mosley made a motion to deny Moeller LaCrosse use of the fields based on usage concerns; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.
Wayne Mosley made a motion suggesting Moeller could prep and use the former Churchill property, if Council agrees and additional insurance is purchased; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.
Sharonville Recreation Center sent a letter requesting use of our field(s) for soccer.
· This is a similar use program, and we have combined our teams in the past. Commission would consider soccer field #4 for their use; but would like more details. Commission would like to know what age levels, how many teams, number of children on each team, and if this is a permanent or temporary request.
· Decision tabled until February meeting.
Director’s Report
Membership renewals have been going well.
· The Business Facility/Fitness memberships sold out in 1½ days. Would commission consider raising the number allotted? Not for 2007; however the policy sub-committee will review the situation before the 2008 registration. At that time, they will also review the membership fees, and maybe allow current members to renew before new members can purchase a membership.
· Since “business full facility/fitness” memberships sold out so fast, Gus Janszen made a motion to allow up to ten 2006 members to renew for 2007; seconded by Michele Gottschlich. Motion approved.
Skatepark Questionnaire
· A questionnaire was sent out to all resident households via the newsletter. Approximately, 10% have been returned.
· At this time, approximately 80% of the returns have said no to the idea of building some type of skatepark in Evendale.
· The deadline to return the questionnaire is February 5th, 2007
Platform Tennis
· The Cincinnati area is hosting a national tournament in 2008.
· The organization is looking for locations to place platform tennis facilities. After the event, the site owner can purchase the platform tennis facility at a discounted cost.
· Platform tennis is tennis played on a heated raised court with a small, heated building attached to the court. This activity is primarily a fall, winter, and early spring sport.
Fitness Youth Equipment
· Dave passed out some information regarding youth-sized fitness equipment. Dave just wants commission to keep this in mind and think about where we might put a youth-sized fitness center for members under age 10.
· Because of the obesity issue in this country for this age group, a “youth sized” fitness center would get kids thinking fitness, and how to use fitness equipment.
Flex Room Renovation
· Mary Lou Isaac and Wayne Mosley will consult with Dave about this project.
Open Discussion
· A volunteer basketball coach recently suspended a player from practice and one game, per the department Code of Conduct policy: This player was suspended for seven days from the entire recreation center. Kristen Maiden, Program Supervisor, is working on a Youth Sport Handbook for coaches. The handbook would be distributed during any youth sport coaches’ meeting. This handbook will be placed on the village website for players and parents to view.
· Per Gus Janszen, under Ohio’s new smoking ban, the department can place signage on sports field designating the fields as non-smoking areas.
· When asked if GE would consider allowing Evendale residents use of their lap pool, at the GE fitness center, Dave indicated our residents would not be allowed to use that facility. However, Dave will inquire, again, about usage because their policy might change some day.
Motion to adjourn made at 9:32am by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.
