Recreation Commission Minutes 11/09/06
Evendale Recreation Commission
November 9, 2006

Called to order at 7:33am.

Roll Call:
Mary Lou Isaac, David Nichols, Michele Gottschlich, Wayne Mosley, Doug Lohmeier, Pam Meyers.
Absent: Craig Reeder and Gus Janszen.

Motion to approve minutes made by Michele Gottschlich; seconded by Wayne Mosley. Motion approved.

New Business:
·       Bill Mechley, a resident, requests use of a gym to hold an electrical safety demonstration for local Cub Scout and Boy Scout dens. An email notification would be sent out to the residents inviting them to this event. Motion to allow the scouts to hold the demonstration in the south gym made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Doug Lohmeier. Motion approved.

Old Business:
Tri-Health Report:
·       A member requests to add a blood pressure machine inside the fitness center. At this time, a sign will be placed at the fitness center desk stating Tri-Health personnel can check members’ blood pressure.

Trails Report:
·       The fire and police departments should be invited to join the discussion of the Evendale Trails project(s).
·       Monies budgeted for the trails in 2006 have been spent.
·       The Mayor is directing the Public Works efforts to develop trails. Can Phase 1 of the Gorman (the upper meadow trail) be completed over the winter if the weather is mild?
·       The Park Hills Home Owners Association sent an email regarding their future trail development. Dave will forward the email to commission members.

Director’s Report:
·       The Jewish Community Center sent a thank you letter to the commission for allowing the JCC to use the pool over the summer.
·       Mary Lou and Michele’s two year term is up. They should notify the Mayor if they wish to return for another two year term.
·       A new awning has been installed over the patio. Snow and ice loads were taken into account in the design.

Phi Lambda Pi Report: as stated in the Commission packet.

Open Discussion:
·       The Mayor announced the monthly village newsletter is returning in 2007.
·       Holiday programs should be more religiously diverse, not just Christian based.
·       Market the Department’s accomplishments more. Send news releases and photos to local papers (Valley Courier, Tri-County Press especially) after the event has happened (if the event is, only, for residents) or before the event if the general public is invited to attend.
