Meeting Minutes for March 23, 2006
Present at the Meeting:
Andy Lyon, Patti Lyon, Joe Wiehe, Jim Owens
Topics Discussed:
· Reviewed meeting minutes from February 23, 2006
· Service department installed plastic cover on signboard and posted guidelines. Linda Owens volunteered to paint signboard brown, which was approved.
· Joe Wiehe provided sketch for proposed drainage improvements. Plan approved and needed soon. Need service department to add gravel to trails after drainage installed. There are some muddy areas.
· With increased preserve improvements and utilization, discussed required maintenance issues including pond overflow debris, pond overflow piping repair, periodic trail maintenance, wildflower field attention, lawn mowing and picking up trash.
· Andy Lyon’s Eagle project (Wyscarver tree project).
o Plan to complete yet this spring.
o Non-native invasive trees still need to be removed.
o Service department to pick up new trees.
· James Owens’ Eagle project (Hiking trails).
o James has put more prominent flags for wheeled end loader.
o As needed drainage pipes will be put in as the end loader clears trees from the path.
o Grass seeding going ok.
o James provided 2 preliminary maps for committee selection. Selection made. Map was helpful at meeting to discuss some of the preserve projects.
o Additional trail signage suggested. Joe Wiehe to check with Creative Blast.
· Duck box project completed by Joe Asbrock and scouts. Mallards have been sited on pond. Hopefully new duck box will attract merganser, bufflehead or wood ducks.
· Prairie grass seed purchased by Owens for James Owens to plant.
· Committee agreed to continue meetings in recreation conference room.
· Invasive trees on east side of parking lot to be removed. Plan to replace with 10-15 deciduous trees.
Action Items:
· Linda Owens to paint signboard brown.
· Joe Wiehe and Jim Owens to check with Creative Blast to make Horncastle signboard with trails’ directions included. Also, make other trail signs. Service department to install.
· Andy Lyon to continue work on Wyscarver tree project. Service department to cut down unwanted trees and pick up new trees.
· Service department to continue working James Owens creek trail with James. James Owens to complete new trails including planting grass seed. James to provide final map of trails.
· Service Department to also work on:
o Add drainage along north side of pond trail and in wildflower field to drain into creek on south side of headwall.
o Gravel on trails where needed.
o Add large gravel to creek upstream of headwall.
o Till up area identified for James Owens to plant prairie grass.
o Bo to look into additional wildflower seeds for field where needed.
o Clean out pond overflow and seal discharge piping.
