Village of Evendale
Special Council Meeting
June 17th, 2014
The Village of Evendale Regular Council Meeting was called to order by Mayor Don Apking at 5:00 pm.
Roll call- The following council members were present: Mayor Don Apking, Mr. Bill Puthoff, Mr. John Ranz, Jr., Mr. Richard Finan, Ms. Catherine Hartman, Mr. Jeff Albrinck and Mr. Chris Schaefer. Also present: Village Solicitor, Tim Burke, CFO Cynthia Caracci and Village Clerk, Barb Rohs.
Presentation of Ordinances and Resolutions:
The Mayor presented ORD. #14-27 ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE #13-31 WHICH PROVIDED FOR SALARY INCREASES FOR MEMBERS OF EVENDALE VILLAGE COUNCIL COMMENCING ON JANUARY 1, 2014 AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. This is the third reading. Discussion: Ms. Hartman expressed her position that the voters should have an opportunity to vote on this in November. Mayor Apking feels this is bad PR for the village. A motion for the 3rd reading was made by Mr. Finan, seconded by Mr. Albrinck and passed with yes votes from Mr. Finan, Mr. Albrinck, Mr. Ranz, and Mr. Puthoff. “No” votes from Mr. Schaefer and Ms. Hartman. Emergency clause failed with a 4-2
vote. “Yes” votes from Mr. Finan, Mr. Albrinck, Mr. Ranz, and Mr. Puthoff. “No” votes from Mr. Schaefer and Ms. Hartman. Mayor Apking declared Ord. #14-27 adopted.
The Mayor presented ORD. #14-31 ORDINANCE TO PLACE ON THE NOVEMBER 2014 GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT A MEASURE TO AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE VILLAGE OF EVENDALE BY DELETING THE PORTION OF ARTICLE III, SECTION 6, WHICH REQUIRES COUNCIL TO DECLARE VACANT THE SEAT OF ANY VILLAGE-ELECTED OFFICER, WHO WHILE SERVING IN THE OFFICE TO WHICH THEY HAVE BEEN ELECTED, BECOMES A CANDIDATE FOR ANOTHER ELECTED OFFICE. Mr. Finan would like to table this ordinance to a later date.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:35pm.
