September 1st, 2015
6:00 pm

In attendance were Councilmembers John Ranz, Bill Puthoff and Jeff Albrinck, Police Chief Niel Korte, Fire Chief Mike Hauck, Mayor Don Apking, Administrative Asst to the Mayor, David Elmer, Chief Fiscal Officer Cynthia Carracci, and Recreation Director Dave Nichols.  Also in attendance were Beth McDaniel, Stiney Vonderhaar and Diane Redden

1)      Administration-Cindy Vaske provided an overview of the ordinance necessitated by House Bill 5.  She clarified that the majority of the impact will be procedural and administrative.   New forms and guidelines will be adopted for the reporting of earned income by all employees, including temporary employment

2)      Recreation- Dave Nichols reported that the Swim League championships went very well and thanked all those that supported the village hosting the event.  A Proclamation to the swim team will be made at the September council meeting.

3)      Police- Chief Korte requested authority to purchase a cell phone forensic program.  The Police Dept has sufficient funds in the drug seizure fund to purchase the program.  The committee unanimously approved the purchase.

Chief Korte also reported  that they are still responding to calls for thefts from vehicles and homes that are not properly secured.  He further indicated that heroin continues to be a problem.

4)      Fire-  Chief Hauck provided the details of the 3 alarm fire in Woodlawn.  30 vehicles and over 100 firefighters were on scene.

New firefighter, Rob Durnwall, is working out well and quick to learn.

Chief Hauck has assessed the Cultural Arts Center regarding the lack of a fire alarm system.  This prompted the discussion on the other buildings within the village lacking fire alarms and/or sprinkler systems.  Chief Hauck will work on list of the village buildings that lack either sprinkler systems or fire alarms, obtain costs to add, and then prioritize addressing each issue as warranted.

5)      David Elmer updated the committee on the Aerohub development across from St Rita’s.

Upon motion by Bill Puthoff and seconded by Jeff Albrinck, the meeting adjourned at 7:15.
