Attendees: Doug Lohmeier, Stiney Vonderhaar, Carolyn Smiley-Robertson, Jim Bothe, James Jeffers, Susan VanAmerongen, Jeff Albrinck
I. Gorman Heritage Farm
a. Funding Agreement Extension- Susan asked request how the Farm should approach this for the future. Suggestion was made to form a sub-committee to discuss long-term.
b. The camp season was successful and almost full despite a troubled economy School groups are filling up for fall
c. We are resuming birthday parties on Saturday afternoons for fall
d. Plans are in process for Sunflower Festival October 3 & 4
e. A new pasture is almost complete, with the rerouting of part of a trail. Staff is investigating AmeriCorps, which offers a low-cost trail building team that would refurbish some of our trails.
f. The Market Garden is doing well at both its location on Reading Road and in the Interpretive Building
g. Staff is working with the Boy Scouts to celebrate the Grand Opening of their new building October 17.
h. Five Eagle Scout projects are in the works.
i. We have hired a new Farm Manager, Darrell Franklin
j. Susan VanAmerongen proposed a 175th Anniversary logo for the farm to approach the beautification committee to look at flags to put out along Reading Road & Glendale-Milford.
k. Jeff Albrinck brought to our attention that multiple residents are concerned about how the fence is being installed. Susan VanAmerongen addressed how the plan changed to accommodate the animals. Mr. Albrinck also mentioned the residents see part of the value of the farm is the trials. Susan agreed to post a notice explaining the changes.
II. Fire
a. Interviews on 9/2/09 by the Council Hiring Committee to fill vacancy caused by Lt. Jeff Harper's retirement
b. Swearing-in of new firefighter/paramedic at 9/10/09 Council Meeting (hiring ordinance information sent to Tim on 8/25/09)
c. Promotional written test for Lieutenant to Captain in scheduled for 8/31/09 and administered by Ohio Fire Chiefs Association
d. Assessment center process will be held on 9/10/09 for the promotion; administered by Ohio Fire Chiefs Association
e. Anticipated promoting 2 Lieutenants to Captain at the October Council Meeting
III. Recreation
a. Dave will be recommending $25,000 in the 2010 budget for replacement cardio equipment as been discussed in the last two months meetings.
IV. Service
a. Island Lights are complete and new landscaping is almost complete.
b. Next on the list is to start on the path lights from Cooper Road south to the Reading border.
c. Kathy Davidson has volunteered to take care of the south entrance into the Village.
d. Salt bids came in and the price is down to approximately $77/ton which is half of last year and only have to purchase what you use versus what you requested.
e. Jim Bothe requested us to replace a 15 year dump truck, committee agreed because of other expenditures to bring put it in the 2010 budget.
V. Engineering
a. Discussion on how to improve the length of life of the annual plantings on the Municipal grounds.
b. Original street program is wrapping up this week. The drawings for the additional streets are almost complete and work should start the third week in September.
