August 5th, 2008

Attendees: Doug Lohmeier, Stiney Vonderhaar, James Jeffers, Dave Nichols, Rick Cruse, Jim Boothe

I.      Gorman Heritage Farm  NO Report from farm board
1.      Council expectations for renewal request in October. (Doug is working on this list) Doug will send questions to farm to be addressed in funding request.
2.      The Barn Project ~

4.      Perimeter Fence Project
5.      Letters to Neighbors

II.     Engineering
·       Road project is moving forward
·       Glendale-Milford –Reading road intersection work to start after Labor Day
·       Street Sign installation to begin first of September

III.    Recreation
·       Recommended ordinance to authorize additional compensation for private lessons over previously approved amount.
IV.     Service
·       Recommended Ralph Pommering for permanent employment status and next step increase at the recommendation of Jim Boothe.
·       Bill Mechley continues on the installation of new island street lights.
·       Test light for residential street has been installed at 9619 Otterbein Road; Mr. Lohmeier gave his support of the new light fixture.


V.        Fire
1.      Discuss Wellness Call Check for the Elderly
·       Chief Cruse presented his review of the wellness call check for residents. His research explained that for the costs involved versus the number of participants it is not cost effective. He cited two communities that had over a 100,000 residents and less than 50 in each community participated. Committee suggested he put a notice on the webpage to suggest to residents of organizations that offer this service. Ie. Sycamore Senior Citizens and Southwest Ohio Council on Aging.
·       Mr. Lohmeier mentioned the article of neighboring communities applying for a grant to evaluate the feasibility of creating a joint fire district. We supported Chief Cruse’s decision for Evendale not to participate.
·       Chief Cruse mentioned a newspaper article addressing Evendale’s response time to structure fires. Chief Cruse questions the data used in the report and we instructed him to send a letter to the editor providing more accurate data from our records.
        

Other items:    
·       Confirmed the Arcadia cell tower proposal is on the agenda for Planning Commission August 19th.
·       Motion was made to approve committee minutes from January 6, 2008, February , 2008, March 4, 2008, April 8, 2008, April 29, 2008, June 3, 2008 by Stiney Vonderhaar, seconded by Doug Lohmeier all were in favor.
