Minutes of Committee Meeting
Fire Department, Village Engineer, Service Department
Gorman Farm
October 30, 2003
The meeting of the Evendale Council Committee for Fire Department, Village Engineer, Service Department, and Gorman Farm was called to order at 7:00 pm. Councilmembers Smiley-Robertson, Vonderhaar and Schaefer were present. Also present were Architect Bob Richardson who presented a concept plan for the Reading Corporate Line Entrance Park, Gail Daggy, Teri Rasfeld, Susan Van Amerongen, Terry Barnet, Rob Adams, Dick Shaffer, Dion Kiger, Michael Schwartzman, and Jack Cameron.
Reading Corporate Line Entrance Park
Evendale has a grant for $30,000 for plant installation and $20,000 for plant maintenance. The sprinklers, lighting, walks, walls, etc. must be paid for by Evendale. Bob Richardson, who as a City of Cincinnati employee, worked on many gateway features, presented his concept to give the committee members some of his ideas for the park. The Beautification Committee and Planning Commission were invited to the meeting as were nearby property owners.
Those in attendance generally approved of a diagonal wall and planting facing the entrance. The plantings will be layered to mimic the concept applied at Glendale and Reading Road. At that location, there are Austrian pines in back, next are viburnum, then higher flowers, with annuals in front. Incorporated in the plantings will be a wall. The wall cannot recreate the curved walls along Reading Road because the sign would not be readable. Instead, it may undulate to anticipate the curved walls ahead. It will be a stone wall, and may be layered with a stone portion in front and high portion with a similar portion in back. A vertical feature will not be incorporated at this time, but provisions for adding one later will be allowed. The street trees along Reading Road between Cooper Road and the
corporation line will be added. They will be grouped in sets of four. With this guidance Bob will continue the design development.
There being no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
