EASTPORT SCHOOL DEPARTMENT
EASTPORT, MAINE
MEETING OF THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE
Shead High School
Monday, January 9, 2006
7:00 p.m.

School Committee Members Present:  Paula Bouchard, Shannon Emery, Melissa Mitchell, and Andrew Seeley.
School Committee Members Absent:  Dorothy Perkins, (excused)
Staff Present: Superintendent Arthur Wittine, Principal Maureen Pottle, and Principal Terry Lux
Others Present:  None

A.  Call the Meeting to Order.

        Chairmember Paula Bouchard called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

B.  Adjustments to the Agenda

        G. 3. To Consider Approval for the Eastport Elementary School Teaching Principal Search Time Line.

        G. 4. Discussion of School Lunch Program.

C.  Consideration of School Committee Minutes:

     To Approve the Minutes of the December 6, 2005 School Committee Meeting, as Written or with Corrections, as Recommended by the Superintendent           of Schools.

     It was moved by Andrew Seeley, seconded by Shannon Emery, and voted 4 – 0 to approve the minutes of the December 6, 2005, School Committee Meeting, as
      written.

D.  1.  Principal of Eastport Elementary School:  This report is attached.
    2.  Principal of Shead High School:  This report is attached.
    3.  School Committee Report:  Paula Bouchard spoke about an incentive program to improve attendance and reduce tardiness.
         Andrew Seeley stated that a group that shows the greatest improvement gets recognized and acknowledged.
         Paula Bouchard stated that the School Committee meeting is the only arena where school business can be officially conducted.
         The School Committee asked that Deborah Little attend a School Committee Meeting to explain Title I.
    4.  Superintendent's Report:  This report is attached.

E.  Public Participation.

    There was no public participation.

F.  Old Business:

    1.  To Consider the First Reading of Policy GBEBB, Staff Conduct with Students, as Recommended by the Superintendent of Schools.

         It was moved by Andrew Seeley, seconded by Melissa Mitchell, and voted 4 – 0 to approve the first reading of the Policy GBEBB, with changes that were    
          determined during tonight’s work session.

G.  New Business:

    1.  To Enter an Executive Session to Consider a Personnel Matter Pursuant to Statutory Citation {1 MRSA ss 405 (6) (A)}.

         It was moved by Andrew Seeley, seconded by Shannon Emery, and voted 4 – 0 to enter executive session at 8:25 p.m.

         Time Out – 8:35 p.m.

     2.  To Consider Release of Funds to Vicki Morrison for the Mary B. Walsh Scholarship.

          It was moved by Andrew Seeley, seconded by Shannon Emery, and voted 4 – 0 to release funds to Vicki Morrison for the Mary B. Walsh Scholarship.

     3.  To Consider Approval of the Eastport Elementary School Teaching Principal Search Time Line.

          It was moved by Andrew Seeley, seconded by Melissa Mitchell, and voted 4 – 0 to approve the time line and to have two teachers, one parent, the high school  
           principal, and three to four school committee members serve on the search committee.

     4.  Discussion of the School Lunch Program.

          As a result of the discussion, Julia Suddy will be invited to the next meeting to speak about the breakfast and lunch programs.  The Superintendent will provide
           menus from MSU 104 schools for the school committee to review.

H.  Adjournment.

Paula Bouchard adjourned the meeting at 9:10 p.m.
