DEDICATION OF CAMP LEE-STEPHENSON MEMORIAL PARK
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2005, 2:30 PM
QUODDY VILLAGE
EASTPORT, MAINE
Today is the 61st anniversary of the dedication of the original memorial to Lt. Lee and Stephenson, who were killed in World War Two. Because of the efforts of a dedicated group of Seabee veterans, Island X-24 Navy Seabee Veterans of America, we are gathered to dedicated this park along with two new plaques they have donated.
The first plaque is a copy of the original that was to Lee and Stephenson. The second plaque is dedicated to 30 enlisted Seabees killed in the Second World War. The U.S. Navy memorialized the names of these Seabees in the street names of Quoddy Village when it was Camp Lee-Stephenson. After the base was closed, these street names were retained by the City of Eastport.
