Property Revaluation Letters
I believe property owners have received their letters on the revaluation figures.  On 24 and 25 February we will be holding 15 minute, individual appointments with property owners who have questions or concerns about the property revaluation letters.   Another set of appointments is slated for 12 and 13 June.   But first, I want to clear up some current misconceptions.  For example, simply because your valuation doubles does not mean that your taxes will double.
Revaluations do not raise additional funds beyond what the town’s budget is.~ A revaluation is, by law, to correct property value inequities that have crept in over the years and therefore more fairly distribute the tax burden. By State law, property values must reflect real estate market sales as near as possible.
If you have questions or concerns you can call Jacki Robbins or myself or call City Hall for an appointment.  Our contact information is on the letters. Please bring a constructive attitude.  We cannot know the intricacies of each and every property in Eastport.  If there are errors, we will correct them.   If there are no errors we will explain the reasoning used to get those values.~~ While we do have to follow state laws and guidelines and valuations we are not unreasonable.  We are required to, and we want to, get your values correct.
