A Reminder to Eastport Home Owners
From The Eastport Tax Assessor

Homestead and Veteran’s Property Tax Exemption Applications must be filed with the assessor’s office before April 1st 2013 in order to qualify for the upcoming tax year. Exemptions currently applied are indicated on the property tax invoice.

To qualify for the Maine Resident (Homestead) Property Tax Exemption you must be a legal resident of The State of Maine, have owned a homestead property in Maine for at least the past 12 months as of April 1, 2013 and declare this homestead as your permanent place of residence.  This exemption reduces the residence valuation by $10,000.

There are several requirements to qualify for the Veterans Tax Exemption. Applicants must have served in the Armed Forces during any federally recognized war period and reached the age of 62, or be receiving compensation for total disability as a veteran regardless of age. This exemption reduces the property valuation by $6,000.

These applications, once made, need not be filed again in subsequent years. For Information and applications, or questions about these and other property tax relief programs contact the Tax Assessors at Eastport City Hall.
