MINUTES
of
April 8, 2014

Present: Lian Smith, Roz Diamond, Joyce Ikonnikow, Fred Guidi   Absent:  Andrea Aldana
Non-members Present: Neal Andres

Key Points of Discussion:

Swap Shop:
  • At its meeting on April 7, 2014, the BOS voted 4 in favor, 1 against to support recommendation to BOH for inclusion of regulation banning resale of items taken from Swap Shop.  Those who violate this regulation would be subject to loss of Transfer Station pass and/or a fine. Recommendation will be sent to BOH for their consideration and action at their April 24, 2014 meeting.
Educational Materials:
  • Lian and Joyce reported that the CC Tech School had agreed to print 5,000 informational pamphlets for $479, on recycled paper.  When available, the pamphlets will be available at several locations, including the Sticker Office on Old Orchard Rd where there is considerable activity in the spring as people come in to get their beach and transfer station passes.
  • It was suggested that the colorful 8.5”x11” Compost Leaflet prepared by MA DEP be scanned, printed, and distributed in Eastham.
  • The Thermometer graphic that David Quinn had circulated was also discussed as an additional educational item that could be posted at the Transfer Station for all to see town progress on reducing the solid waste stream.
  • Joyce and Neal agreed to meet to review the Wellfleet and Brewster brochures on recycling and to prepare a mock-up of one to be prepared by the Tech School that is for Eastham residents and consistent with Eastham’s policies and practices.
Miscellaneous:
  • It was noted that the town of Wellfleet has signed a contract for waste hauling with ABC (Eastham signed with SEMAS).
Next Meeting Date:  Tuesday, June 10, 2014, 5:30 PM, Small Conference Room
