Eastham Open Space Committee
Minutes Febuary 27th 2008
In Attendance:
Dave Read, Frank Dobek, Glenn Collins, Bob Cook, Steve Gulrich, Rachel Hutchinson
The minutes from the past meeting were approved, with the additions of everybody’s last name.
Glenn reported that the bridge construction was completed and now we were just waiting on earthen ramps to be built. The bridge ended up one foot higher than construction plans and that will mean that the ramp will extend out farther than planned. The conservation commission discussed it the previous night and had okayed the clearing of brush from around the area so that the earthen ramp could be completed. Glenn stated that the town planned to higher somebody local to complete the project. Bob Cook brought up if the contractor did not build the bridge to plans and that lead to a longer ramp couldn’t the contractor be held accountable for the extra money to build the extra ramp. A discussion ensued as to if the height of the bridge was off of the land level or off the water
level.
Frank described what happened at the selectman’s meeting last week in regard to the Harris property for all of us who were not present. Overall the members who were present felt like it was positive to go in front of the selectman and have them re-look at this piece. Frank mentioned that the selectman seemed to be having a issue with the way the property would be divided and that what they were willing to sell to the town was an almost inaccessible corridor. The open space committee still saw the advantage as a wildlife corridor. The selectman were also interested in the funding possibilities for the property, Henry was to continue to investigate the extra funding possibilities and was to get back to the selectman on this and they would work on negotiating a price.
The committee wanted to leave till next meeting and continue to think about interruptive signs for the properties, as well as possible new entrance signs, as well as the implementation schedule.
