Open Space Committee
29 August 2007
Meeting held at Wiley Park 5:00 PM
MINUTES
Members present: Bob Cook, Frank Dobek, Dave Read, Glenn Collins, Sue Haley, Sue Horton
Staff: Rachel Hutchinson, Henry Lind
Meeting was convened in the parking lot at Wiley Park at 5PM. The focus of the meeting was to determine locations and placement for the wayside signs which have been completed.
Other topics were discussed before the implementation of the signs. We received a letter from Christina Pearson regarding the placement of the Mutt Mitt dispenser at the Herringbrook road entrance. Two foot trails entering from Luther’s Lane and Beehive were brought to our attention and the committee concluded that such trails were inappropriate and steps should be taken to discourage their use with signage. Additionally, a request to landscape an abuttor’s property to allow passage to the pond across Wiley Park was not considered acceptable. Glenn suggested that deeded access to the pond was a remote possibility but unlikely and will be checked.
It was reported that the property at the end of Old Farm Lane which has been the subject of interest for possible acquisition as Open Space under the CPA program (Fellers) has been purchased by an abuttor whose interest is not for construction of a dwelling but rather a Conservation Restriction and potential addition to his dwelling in the remaining upland.
The members were provided an update on the progress of the bridge construction in that the bid had been awarded and work is anticipated to begin in mid to late September. Existing timber in the waterway will be removed by staff prior to construction.
The wayside signs were evaluated at each of the five locations and stakes placed for the support members. GPS identification was also recorded for the GIS mapping. One of the signs will not be placed until after the bridge construction is complete due to its proximity to the work area lest it be damaged.
Officer Hutchinson was introduced and has outlined and prioritized projects for the coming months which will be reviewed at the September meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 PM
Respectfully submitted
Henry Lind
