Land Acquisition
Baldwin/Harris Property
Mr. Harris called Judy after our last meeting before she got a chance to write the letter. The family is still discussing what the best use of the property is, but no decisions on what to do with the property. The family has talked extensively with Mark Robinson with respect to conserving the property. Judy wrote the letter reasserting our interest in the property for open space.
Fellers/Old Farm Lane
There was a rumor that the property was on the market, Judy checked, but did not see it listed anywhere. Apparently, the Fellers contacted the town about purchasing the property as an open space purchase under the CPA.
Fletcher Property on Harmes Way
Mr. Fletcher and the Audubon are still in the throes of the property transfer. An appraisal is required.
Open Space Priority Wish List
We should update our priority list and re-evaluate the properties before the fall. Discussion ensued with respect to various properties.
Open Space Management
Wiley Park Bridge
The variance request has not been submitted yet. The grant money is OK, we can keep the grant money. Katelyn applied for an extension on the grant money and is keeping the grant money folks in the loop.
Green Grant Sign
Katelyn has ordered the sign. She would like to know where we would like to put the sign. The sign is more of a display case. It will be green and is 3 feet by 4 feet. Judy suggested using the posts that are already there that the boy scouts put in. She was looking for info as to what to put in the display case. Discussion ensued with respect to ideas for the display case: poison ivy, ticks, trail info etiquette, explanation as to the storm and why so many trees are down, information about the 1651 Forest project…
Open Space Site Walk/Sign Location
Katelyn has suggested to Judy scheduling a time to do a site walk to begin deciding where to put our signs in the parks. We decided we would meet Wed June 21st at 5 pm in the Wiley Park parking lot. Judy will tell Katelyn to bring updated trail maps so we can mark on the trail maps where we want the signs. Sue Haley is a good person to tap for ideas on vandalism proof signs and how to mount them.
Old Business
O.S. Committee Membership
We still have an open position.
Open Space Plan
It may be ready to go by August. Discussion ensued with respect to mailing it to the state for their review to get it out the door and simply respond to their comments upon their review.
New Business
1651Forest
Loretta Nielson reported the 1651 Arboretum had a meeting today. They are planning their annual meeting at the end of September and they would like to give tours in the fall to show off the trees and plantings. Loretta anticipates there will be between 25-50 people attending the tours. They have broken the tour down into 3 groups and will keep the tour size to approximately ten people. The tour will keep to the existing trails. The tour will be educational and informational with respect to the flora and fauna in Wiley Park and the 1651 Forest. 132 trees have been planted so far. Judy asked who will be leading the tours – Loretta Nielson, Bruce Whittemore and Al Sette. The 1651 Advisory Committee needs to approve the tour idea first. The general consensus of our group was that it is a good idea.
Conservation Commission
Glen reports things have quieted down.
Community Preservation Act Committee
Glen reports they have a call into Sheila regarding the CPA funds and when they become available.
