MINUTES
Open Space Committee December 18, 2004 / 9:00 am
Present: Judy Brainerd, Glen Collins, Laura Freeman, Sue Haley, Sue Horton, Keith Johnson, Dave Read and Toni Stoker.
The purpose of this meeting was to view several parcels of land which may be desirable to
purchase. The properties visited were as follows:
Baldwin Property on Dyer Prence Road
This property is at the end of Dyer Prence Road generally in between the road and the
parking lot to Rock Harbor. It is a 4 acre parcel that includes salt marsh, ACEC and some
uplands area. The property is assessed at $48K and it was mutually agreed upon that this
would be a desirable piece of property for the town to purchase.
Saunders Property on Crosby Village Road
This property would provide pond frontage along Herring Pond and also the bike trail. The property is 1.7 acres. The power lines run over the property and there was some discussion as to how the easement for the power lines may affect the buildablity of this parcel. It was mutually agreed upon that this parcel would be desirable for town purchase as well. The property is assessed at $631,600.
Nickerson
Plans to clear a few trees at the trailhead across from the intersection of Cole Road in order to create off street parking were discussed. It was unanimously agreed upon that this was an excellent idea. Off street parking in this location is much safer than the current parking option of pulling off the side of the road. Also, this parcel would probably get used more often if the available parking was safer and obvious.
Schneider Property on Locust Road
This property had a For Sale sign displayed and there was evidence of recent soil testing. The property is adjacent to the power lines and the bike trail. While not highly desirable from an open space point of view, the property seems to be highly desirable to the Town as is could provide valuable parking adjacent to the bike trail. The property is assessed at $160,700.
Daniels Property on Old Orchard Road
The Daniels property was also viewed by some of the Committee members. There was discussion about the potential to use the property for mixed use. More discussion is planned at our next meeting.
Next Meeting: Our next open space meeting will be January 19, 2004 at 7:30 pm. Note that this is the third Wednesday of the month, rather than the fourth.
