Minutes of October 26,2010
Present: Mary Sedlock, Gordon Major, Carl Lipton, Elaine Lipton, Judi Izikewicz
Also present: Sue Canavari and Margaret Phillips who have applied to serve on this committee.
Meeting called to order at 7:07 pm by Mary Sedlock, Chairperson.
Minutes of 10/19/2010: Carl Lipton moved to accept the minutes as sent, second Gordon Major, unanimous vote.
Mary Sedlock welcomed “Nauset Together We Can” and asked for an overview of the agency.
Christine King, gave a brief overview of the activities that are ongoing at the center.
Increase in attendance, alliance with Nauset Youth Alliance of Brewster, which enables them mobility to various venues.
Exploring the possibility of purchasing a used van of their own.
Discussion about the $5000.00 allotted by the town at the annual budget mtg. Attempting to get an amendment as to the use of the money. Safety upgrades versus programs. They have already been given a “CO”, but still need to apply for variance from the Bd of Health regarding the septic system. They are not using the back room at this time, it is totally blocked off.
Jean Finch, Account for Nauset together we can gave a passionate description of the activities being provide, and what is still needed. Explained that no monies for capital expenses come from the program budget.
Damian Clemens, Director, gave a brief overview of his duties and responsibilities at the center.
Q & A
Q. Any contingency plan in place if this sight fall thru because of the slept is system, and the Bd of Health?
A. none at the moment, but they have positive feedback from the townspeople.
Q. How often do you have more than 12 teens at one time.
A. rare now that the back room is closed.
Q. is it now less attractive to teens, with the back room closed.
A. noticed some teens no longer returning. ”We would not run the program, if we could not adequately serve the children”.
Q. what other towns are currently taking advantage of the center?
A. Wellfleet, Brewster, and Orleans.
Mary Sedlock welcomed “Consumer Assistance Council” and asked for a brief overview of the agency.
Janice Albertazzi, Co-director explained that the agency is the” Consumer Protection” of the Cape and Islands, serving under the Attorney General's office.
Main objective of the council is to mediate complaints by consumers so as not to go to court.
Complaints are mostly handled by a large number of volunteers.

Q. do Senior Centers take advantage of this service?
A. very close contact with the CO’s
$28,978.00 was saved for residents of Eastham, of the 23 cases opened this year all but 6 have been closed.
Elaine Lipton, gave a brief synopsis of her and Carl Lipton's on site visit to “Homeless Prevention” . Explaining the excellent services that the agency provides. The agency has a Case Manager, and have seen a significant rise in families, due to the economy.
Carl Lipton reported on his and Gordon Major's visit to “Sight Loss Prevention”, speaking of the support groups for the newly sight loss clients, 57 Eastham residents have been served by this program.
Gordon Major made a motion to adjourn at 8:40pm, second,Carl Lipton unanimous vote.
