Bikeways Committee Minutes 08/01/05

MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES FOR THE AUGUST 1, 2005 MEETING
Meeting called to order at 4:30 PM.
Members:
· Present were Chairman Don Ouellette, Dave Badger, Mike Kain, Dave Maynard, Ron Rencurrel and Bob Donahoe
· Absent with permission were Bernadette Burgess and Tina Jas
· Representing the town selectmen, P. Whitlock (absent).
Minutes of the July committee meeting were approved.
Old Business

Trail Signage: The trail signs have been installed on Brackett Road, Locust Road and on Samoset Road. They
point out Emergency First Aid, Food, Bike Shop and National Seashore. Kudos to Messrs Badger, Donahoe,
Ouellette and Rencurrel for their time on August 3rd.
Storm Drain covers Bernadette pointed out via email that the Board of Highway Surveyors has agreed to look
into the feasibility of replacing the three (3) storm sewer grates on Nauset Road.
New Business
· Dave Maynard discussed two proposals requiring letters to the Board of Selectmen:
1. "As part of the widening of Brackett Road we are requesting that a sidewalk be constructed from
Route 6 to the CCRT. The sidewalk should be separated from the roadway by a curb to prevent incursion
by cars. This project is on a fast track and we need to get EBC advice in ASAP as Brackett Road is scheduled
to be adjusted to 3 lanes by next summer. Dave explained that he thinks a walkway on the north side (Cape Cod
Five side) of Brackett Road from Route 6 to CCRT can accommodate both bikers and walkers.
2. Dave wants to ask Mass DCR¹s Danny O¹Brien about the status of the tunnel prior to requesting (and drafting)
a letter from the BOS. He's done this. Danny's response is that the State expects to be able to acquire some room
on the west side of the tunnel but not on the east end of the tunnel. It will be a partial solution which may be better
than no solution at all.
We passed around and discussed the Orleans Bikeways Committee's 5 year plan. They have done a very fine job on this.
Elections
Elections of Officers were held. Elected are:
Chairman - Ron Rencurrel
Vice-Chair - Bob Donahoe
Secretary - Mike Kain
We decided to change the day of our meetings from the first Monday to the first Wednesday and the time of our meetings
from 4:30 pm to 8:30 am. A check with Town Hall shows that we need to meet at 8:15 am as a group follows us at 9:30
on the first Wednesdays. Accordingly, the next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 7 at 8:15 AM.
The meeting ended at 5:35 PM.
