MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES FOR THE April 11, 2005 MEETING
Meeting called to order at 4:30 PM.
Members:
· Present were Chairman Don Ouellette, Dave Badger, Bob Donahoe, Tina Jas, Mike Kain, and Dave Maynard.
· Absent with permission were Bernadette Burgess and Ron Rencurrel.
· Representing the town selectmen, P. Whitlock (absent).
Minutes of the March committee meeting were approved.
Old Business
Trail Signage:
Don reported that Danny O’Brien of the Mass. Dept of Conservation and Recreation mentioned that the Kiosk maps are in the process of being updated and will have Police Department, Fire Department and toilet information on them. The street signs will be funded by the State within the $5 million appropriation. We need to place an order for the PD, FD and toilet signs funded by the Town. Don will work with the Town Administrator to place the order for both the signs and the poles. The EBC will install them. We will also purchase stick-on letters for use on the bollards should they be needed.
Forging Alliances: While explaining the purpose of requesting a meeting with Chief Olsen, Debbie Abbott offered that she could help get the information we are looking for. She committed to getting a years worth of information; all pending the chief’s agreement.
Trail Maintenance: We will begin work again beginning on May 13th. America Corps was scheduled to work on the CCRT in late January. This didn’t materialize due to the weather and has been rescheduled for May 5th. Dave Maynard and Bob Donahoe will meet soon, recon the Eastham CCRT and make recommendations to keep a 12 person crew with equipment busy for the day with meaningful work. Don and Bob Donahoe did a recon on the trail on April 15th and concluded that there meaningful work for the crew. Dave and Bob will prepare a work schedule for the America Corps crew. A lot of trimming needs to be done. Major areas are: Nauset Road area; S. Brackett Road between Brackett & Arnold’s; South of the
Tunnel; Samoset Road (N).
We will restart our own maintenance crew work beginning on Friday, May 13th.
Safety Program: Mike Kain and Tina Jas presented signs to be placed near the Kiosks regarding safety. A final version was agreed upon. They will look at the possibility of having Cape Cod Technical High School in Harwich make them.
Parking:
Don mentioned that the Open Space Committee was considering the feasibility of purchasing a piece of land in the vicinity of Locust Road as a potential parking area. The area is located under power lines. They are also looking at property on Brackett Road. There was some question of town ownership of the property currently owned by the State & Town used for a parking area on Brackett Road. Dave Badger stated that he’d check on this.

The next meeting will be on Monday, May 9th, 2005, which is a change from our schedule.
