The minutes of May 9, 2012 were approved as presented.

Old Business
  • Bike Repair Workshop-This went well; there were ten or eleven people in attendance.  Paul sent a letter to Jan at Idle Times Bike Shop thanking him for his presentation.
  • May bike ride-Not too many people attended but it went well. One of the adult participants suggested that the committee should send a note to the Principal at Eastham Elementary so it gets into the newsletter that goes to parents. It was also suggested that committee members search out neighbors and friends to attend and that flyers be sent to children in grades 3 through 5. Perhaps it could be promoted that there will be a reward at the end for those who complete the ride. Sheri suggested that we continue with radio notices.  Although the Recreation Department submitted proper notice to the newspapers, they did not publish the notice.  It was also suggested that information about the ride be sent to the scouts.
  • Pan Mass Challenge- It was explained to new members that the committee got involved in the past to promote safety during the ride. Committee will continue with signs, etc. as has been done in the past.
  • Tunnel Update--Chief Kulhawik has heard from no one.  Karst Hoogeboom at the Seashore may be of help regarding a sign.
  • Rail Trail Clean-up-Some members and former members will continue to pick up trash on parts of the trail.  There was discussion as to whether this is a proper function of this committee. Paul will bring it up at a future meeting
  • Election of Clerk-This was delayed until a future meeting.
 New Business
  • Bob announced that Bill O’Shea has resigned due to his taking an out-of-state new job. It was noted that Bill was very active during his short tenure on the committee.
  • Sheri feels that the sign at Locust Road sending riders to Salt Pond Visitor Center is not clear. It was explained that signs at that corner need Historic District Committee approval and that it previously took some time to get any sign change there at all. Sheri will follow up with the Historic District Committee.
  • Paul received reimbursement from the town for his Staples expenses. There is currently a balance of about $375 in the Bikeways account with the selectmen.
  • Thanks were expressed to Bob Donahoe and Judy Parmelee for their service as they leave the committee. .
The next meeting will be held on July 11, 2012 at 5 PM.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:36 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Parmelee, Clerk
