BIKEWAYS COMMITTEE
Minutes of April 11, 2012 Meeting
The meeting was called to order at 5:00 PM.
Present: Sheri Cocchiola, Carol Dobek, Bob Donahoe, Bill O’Shea, Judy Parmelee, Paul Schofield,
Mia Blackwell (Associate member)
Absent: Mike Giblin (excused)
The minutes of March 14, 2012 were approved as presented.
Old Business
- Meeting with Chief Kulhawik- Paul and Bob met with the Chief on March 29.
- He liked the idea of “rumble strips” at the tunnel entrances and will recommend this to DCR.
- Stop signs on the Rail Trail may seem too high, but they are regulation height. Committee discussed the possibility of reflective tape on the signs with no decision.
- Chief was not receptive to the idea of a path from CCRT to Red Barn as it might become a hangout area.
- May Bike Ride-Christine Mickle of the Recreation Department will send a notice to the elementary school to encourage kids to participate. Mia asked the principal at Middle School if it could be publicized there, and she said “No”. Deputy Chief Ken Roderick has said that police will participate. Bill will check with Nauset Ice Cream about coupons. Park Ranger has been notified. Nothing has been learned about t-shirts; Sheri will follow up as will Bill. Posters are done. Carol emphasized that the Orleans Coast to Coast ride is the next day and encouraged bikeways members to attend the Orleans event. Sheri looked into a banner but the part-time residents association doesn’t meet until summer.
- Bike Maintenance Workshop-It was agreed that it would be best before Memorial Day; the date was tentatively set for Saturday, May 19 from 10-12 depending on availability of the bike technician. Paul will make final arrangements and take care of newspaper publicity.
New Business
- Officers for next year- Paul has decided to accept another term on the Committee. Possibilities for Chair and Clerk were discussed. This will be decided at the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held on May 9, 2012 at 5PM.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:50 PM.
